Chapter 146: A Wolf’s Bitter Confrontation
Chapter 146: A Wolf’s Bitter Confrontation
(Celeste’s POV)
I stood in the corridor, staring at Lucas, my breathing steady but shallow. The lingering effects of the wolfsbane hadn’t completely left my system, but I wouldn’t let my weakness show. My silver–scarred wolf trembled within me, not from fear, but from suppressed fury.
Lucas was the first to speak, his golden eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that might have once made me falter. “Are you alright?” he asked. His voice carried a tone that almost
sounded like concern, but it only served to stoke the fire in my heart.
I ignored his question, my body rigid as I turned my gaze to Alexander. He stood just behind Lucas, his ice–blue eyes wide with something between relief and panic. Unlike Lucas, he said
nothing, but the tension in his posture was unmistakable.
Each step I took toward Alexander echoed in the silent corridor. My violet eyes bore into his as I closed the distance between us. His white wolf stirred visibly, shifting uneasily under my pointed stare.
My heart was pounding, memories flashing through my mind like lightning. How many times had I stared at this same face, hoping for comfort, for protection? How many nights in Moon Shadow Prison had I clung to the hope that he would come for me?
I felt my chest tighten with unspoken pain. That hope had been a cruel fantasy built on lies.
Without hesitation, I raised my hand and delivered a resounding slap across Alexander’s face. The c***k of the impact echoed in the corridor, silencing whatever fragmented thoughts had been swirling through my head.
My hand stung, but the pain was nothing compared to what clawed at my heart. For a split second, the world stilled.
Alexander didn’t react. He didn’t flinch, didn’t move. He simply stood there, his face turning slightly from the force of the blow. His ice–blue eyes stayed fixed on mine, devoid of defense, devoid of excuses.
My wolf keened softly in my chest, mourning what little faith I had left in him.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Lucas’s furious roar shattered the silence. His voice reverberated down the hallway, his wolf’s energy swelling with aggression. His golden eyes

gleamed with fury as he surged forward, grabbing my wrist in a possessive grip.
“That,” Lucas snarled, his gaze ablaze, “was completely uncalled for, Celeste! We did this to
protect you!”
His words were like poison in my veins. Protect me? Was that what this was? Drugging me,
leaving me helpless in Kane’s quarters, all of it veiled under the guise of protection?
I yanked my arm free, the force of my pull almost unbalancing him. A bitter laugh escaped my lips before I could stop it. The sound was foreign, sharp and cold. Even I barely recognized it.
“Protect me?” I repeated, my tone sharp enough to cut. “Is that what you call drugging me and leaving me in Kane’s quarters like some discarded lamb for the s*******r?”
Lucas stumbled for words, his golden eyes flicking toward Alexander uneasily. For the first
time, I saw doubt flicker in his aggressive stance.
“You don’t understand,” Lucas started, his tone softer now, his wolf whining beneath his
words. “Marcus would have-”
I didn’t let him finish. “Marcus?” I interrupted coldly. “Let me guess, Marcus would have
dragged me into his Dark Forest and tortured me for the rest of my life? And this,” I gestured broadly between all of them, “this was your way of saving me?”
Lucas’s lips parted in a weak attempt to argue, but his voice failed him. I didn’t give him a
chance to recover.
“This isn’t about protecting me,” I spat, my tone dripping with venom. “It’s about saving Scarlett. About sparing her from Marcus’s cruelty because this precious Winter Pack can’t
bear to sacrifice its beloved heir.”
The words tumbled out fast, no longer restrained by the cage of my anger. “You replaced her with me. You threw me into Moon Shadow Prison. You branded me a criminal and stripped me
like of every ounce of dignity I had. And after four years, you drag me back only to offer me up some sacrificial lamb all over again!”
“You’re twisting this-” Lucas growled, but his voice cracked under the weight of my
accusations.
“Twisting this?” I sneered, stepping closer so he could see the fire in my eyes. “You dare to speak of twisting the truth when it was your lies that threw me to the wolves in the first place?
I could see him falter, his wolf recoiling under the force of my words. But his hesitation wasn’t

enough to deter me.
“And as for you,” I said, turning sharply toward Alexander. I took a step forward, my eyes narrowing as I locked onto his conflicted gaze.
His white wolf stirred visibly, its energy shifting between guilt and helplessness. But
Alexander himself remained silent, as he always had, even when the truth begged to be
spoken.
“You don’t even have the decency to defend yourself,” I hissed. “You stood by while they threw
me into that hellhole, while they tore me apart piece by piece. And now, you just… watch? Say
something!”
But he didn’t. His lips parted slightly, as if the words were caught somewhere in his throat,
strangled by his own guilt.
“You’re a coward, Alexander Steele,” I said finally, my voice brittle but loud. My wolf howled in despair as I turned my back on him.
Behind me, I heard Victoria’s hurried footsteps. Her voice broke through the tension like a plea.
“Celeste, wait!” she called, her wolf’s distress evident as she rushed toward me. Scarlett
