Chapter 74: Silver Wounds and Broken Bonds
Chapter 74: Silver Wounds and Broken Bonds
(Celeste’s POV)
The storm raged outside, its howling wind echoing the chaos within me. My silver burns throbbed relentlessly, the ceremonial dagger’s sacred poison pulsing with each heartbeat. Despite the healer’s best efforts, the pain refused to ease.
From the window, I could see Victoria, drenched and trembling in the harsh rain. Her clothes clung to her frame, her usually flawless aura shattered. Her wolf’s pitiful whimpers tore
through the icy air, laced with guilt and anguish.
Lucas stood beside her, his expression a mixture of frustration and concern. “Mother,” he called, his voice carrying faintly through the storm. “This is madness. Come inside. You’ll get
sick out here.”
Victoria shook her head stubbornly, her wolf backing her defiance. “Not until I’ve spoken to her, ” she insisted, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions. Her emerald eyes flickered toward my unseen silhouette behind the window, desperate and pleading.
From the side, Scarlett clung to Victoria’s arm, her theatrics in full force. Her tears fell freely, glimmering with a glint of calculated intention. “Mother, please,” Scarlett sobbed dramatically, her voice loud enough for my wolf to hear. “You don’t need to suffer like this. I’ll apologize on your behalf. I know Celeste will understand.”
Watching her perform, my wolf stirred with an uneasy growl. There was nothing sincere about her display.
Then, Grace, Scarlett’s ever–loyal beta, stepped forward with that all–too–familiar sneer. Nina, despite her weakened state, attempted to cross the courtyard. Grace took this moment to
shove her with unnecessary force.
Nina’s slim form wasn’t built to withstand such aggression. Her body hit the moonstone pillar with a sickening c***k. A small sound escaped her lips–a mix of pain and grit.
My chest tightened as my wolf growled protectively, but I shoved the emotion down. Scarlett immediately moved to cover for Grace, her emerald eyes wide with practiced innocence. “Oh no! Poor Nina,” she exclaimed as Grace helped support her feigned concern. “These wet
stones, they’re so slippery.”
Inside, my breathing slowed, my wolf pacing restlessly, waiting for retaliation. However, when

Lucas finally decided to act, his solution wasn’t to de–escalate the situation. He pounded on my door instead.
“Celeste! Enough of this childish silence!” His voice, now thick with Alpha energy, made the walls vibrate. “Have you no heart? Mother has been standing here for hours just to apologize!”
I stood slowly, the weight of my movements deliberate. The silver scars lining my cheek cooled under my fingertips as I pressed them slightly. I took a deep breath, opened the door, and met Lucas’s gaze head–on.
The sight of me seemed to stun him. His eyes darted toward my face. He flinched visibly, caught off guard by the raw, angry scar trailing across my cheek and the cold hostility lingering in my expression.
But I didn’t spare him a single word. My attention turned immediately to Nina, who was struggling to rise despite the obvious pain in her shoulders and ribs. I made my way to her, kneeling down carefully by her side.
“Easy,” I murmured, my tone soft despite the anger boiling just beneath the surface. “Don’t
push yourself. Let me help.”
Nina shook her head stubbornly. Her silver–gray wolf’s protective energy matched her determination. “I’m fine, My Lady,” she whispered through gritted teeth.
“No, you’re not,” I replied firmly, placing a steadying hand on her arm. My expression hardened as I lifted my gaze toward the others still gathered around. “What a peculiar way to apologize,” I said, my voice cutting through the storm like a sharpened blade. “Attacking my guard while
claiming remorse.”
Lucas opened his mouth to argue, but Victoria’s small gasp caught his attention first. Her emerald dress clung to her soaked figure, and for the first time, she seemed to notice Nina’s hunched form. “Oh no,” she whispered. Her hands flew to cover her mouth.
Scarlett’s voice broke through the quiet before anyone could absorb Victoria’s reaction. “She
slipped,” Scarlett said quickly, her trembling tone an impressive imitation of worry. “She’s
clumsy when the stones are wet.”
Grace nodded smugly, adding, “She fell. No one pushed her. It’s not our fault if she doesn’t
watch where she’s going.”
Nina’s wolf whimpered weakly as she clutched her side, the moonstone pillar’s impact clearly aggravating her previous injuries.
Forcing myself to stay calm, I gently helped Nina to her feet. Her wolf leaned heavily into mine,

seeking comfort despite its stubborn pride. “Go rest,” I told her softly, my voice carrying an
edge of command that wouldn’t tolerate refusal.
At first, she hesitated, torn between leaving me vulnerable and tending to her shaken form.
But when I met her gaze, my expression steady and resolute, she finally nodded and limped
away.
As soon as Nina disappeared into the shadows of the corridor, Lucas spoke again, frustration
bleeding into his tone. “It wasn’t intentional,” he insisted, almost petulant in his defense.
“Accidents happen.”
The corner of my mouth twitched, not with amusement, but with cold disdain. “Does your wolf
truly believe that?” I asked, my tone deceptively soft. I turned toward Victoria, whose damp
figure radiated a bizarre mixture of guilt and desperation.
When she didn’t answer, I pressed further. “Does your wolf even understand empathy
anymore? Did it ever care about my life?”
The question, pointed and venomous, made her emerald eyes widen with visible shock. She
took a hesitant step closer, her hands trembling.
“I never meant to hurt you!” she cried suddenly. Her voice cracked with something raw, perhaps genuine, as she reached out toward me. “Little Moon… I wasn’t thinking. It happened
so fast-”
Her voice faltered as I stepped back sharply, my own wolf recoiling instinctively. My silver burns screamed with renewed pain, the memory of her strike echoing in full detail through
every nerve.
“Don’t,” I said coldly. Her trembling hands froze mid–air and fell limply to her sides.
