Chapter 76: Bitter Mercy
Chapter 76: Bitter Mercy
(Celeste’s POV)
Victoria’s words, commanding me to leave, lingered in the damp air.
Her voice carried the weight of Luna authority, but I did not budge. My wolf, though weakened
by silver burns, refused to bow.
The rain continued to hammer down, soaking her emerald dress and drenched her perfectly
styled hair. Everything about her appearance screamed fragility, but I knew better.
Victoria’s emerald eyes flickered briefly with frustration. She hadn’t expected me to stand my
ground. She had expected compliance–submission from the daughter she had once claimed
to love.
“Celeste,” Victoria said again, her tone sharper this time. It was no longer a plea. It was a
command. “Leave Eleanor’s quarters at once.”
I finally lifted my gaze, locking eyes with hers. My silver–burned cheek throbbed as I stared at
the woman who had once been a mother to me.
My voice broke the silence with a cold sharpness. “You’ve always been good at ordering
people around, haven’t you, Luna?”
Her wolf flinched at my deliberate use of her title instead of “Mother.” The tremor in her hands
betrayed her attempt to remain composed.
Lucas stepped closer to her, his wolf standing protectively at her side. “Enough,” he growled.”
You’re acting like a spoiled pup, Celeste.”
I ignored him, my focus laser–sharp on Victoria. The tension between us coiled tighter with every passing second.
“Don’t make me repeat myself,” Victoria said firmly, trying to regain the control slipping
through her fingers. Her emerald eyes flickered with frustration as her wolf bristled under the
rain.
“And if I don’t leave?” I asked, tilting my head as a bitter smile formed on my lips. “Are you going to brandish a silver dagger again, Luna?”
The accusation made her wolf whimper softly, but she held her ground. “Eleanor’s health is

fragile,” she said, steering the conversation back to safer ground. “Your hostility is upsetting
her.”

I barked out a humorless laugh. “So, that’s how you justify it?” My voice cut through the storm. “Attacking your supposed daughter with silver? Claiming it’s for Eleanor’s sake?”
Victoria’s lips pressed into a thin line. Rain streaked down her face, blending with tears she refused to show openly.
Lucas stepped forward, his golden eyes narrowing. “That’s enough, Celeste.” His tone was commanding, but I heard the c***k in it.
“Enough?” I echoed, turning toward him. My wounded wolf growled softly, matching the new edge in my tone. “Don’t lecture me about ‘enough, brother.”
I gestured toward Nina, who was leaning against the corridor wall, her silver–gray wolf clearly weakened from her injuries. Shadows marred her face where bruises formed.
“Shall we talk about your mercenaries?” I continued, my voice sharp like shattered glass. “Or have you conveniently forgotten about that little stunt tonight?”
Lucas flinched at the accusation. His wolf shifted uncomfortably in response, its golden aura dimming.
”
Behind him, Scarlett clung to his side, her emerald eyes shimmering with crocodile tears. Celeste, you don’t understand,” she said softly, her voice shaking with practiced sorrow.
“Don’t I?” I snapped, glaring at her. My wolf snarled as her fake innocence grated on my raw nerves. “Why don’t you enlighten me, Scarlett? Was the mercenary attack part of your grand plan too?”
Scarlett whimpered, clutching Lucas’s arm like the victim she pretended to be. “It wasn’t
Lucas’s fault,” she whispered tearfully. “He just wanted to protect the pack.”
“Protect the pack?” I repeated, laughing bitterly. “Hiring mercenaries to attack Marcus
Blackwood’s mate–that’s your idea of protection?”
Victoria stiffened at the mention of Marcus’s name. Her wolf shivered, radiating unease at the
potential consequences.
“Think about the Alpha King,” Victoria cut in sharply, her voice quivering just enough to show
her fear. “Think about what retaliation could mean for us. For Eleanor.”
The guilt her words were meant to stir didn’t touch me. The blade she had struck me with- both figuratively and literally–had carved too deep.

Instead, I stepped closer to her, letting the rain mix with the blood still dripping faintly from my wounds. “You think mentioning Eleanor will change anything?” My voice was as cold as the storm surrounding us.
Her wolf recoiled at the icy tone, but Victoria pressed on desperately. “I just want to resolve this before it’s too late,” she said. “Think of the pack.”
I stared at her for a long moment. Then, to everyone’s surprise, I nodded. “Fine,” I said bluntly, cutting the tension like a blade. “Let’s resolve it.”
Scarlett gasped softly, but I ignored her. My eyes remained locked on Victoria’s rain–soaked face. “For Eleanor’s sake,” I continued, my voice sharp, “I won’t file a formal complaint with the Alpha King.”
Their collective relief was almost laughable. Even Scarlett’s trembling sobs seemed to lessen slightly.
“But,” I added, my tone growing even colder, “the Winter Pack still owes me an explanation for tonight’s chaos.”
Victoria seized the opportunity to reassert herself. Straightening her posture, she turned toward Lucas without missing a beat.
“Lucas,” she commanded, her wolf’s aura strong again, “you will serve three days in the pack’s sacred isolation den.”
Lucas’s wolf recoiled as he looked at her in shock. “Mother!” he protested, his voice filled with disbelief. “You can’t seriously-”
“I won’t hear excuses, Victoria snapped, leaving no room for argument. “There must be
consequences.”
Lucas’s indignation faltered as her commanding tone bore down on him. He lowered his gaze reluctantly, his wolf bristling with subdued aggression.
“I’ll go with him!” Scarlett declared suddenly, stepping forward dramatically. Her voice shook as though she were shouldering the weight of the world.
Scarlett’s theatrics were as polished as ever. Even the rain seemed to emphasize her
trembling form as Grace rushed to steady her.
“We’re family,” Scarlett said with quivering determination. “If Lucas is being punished, then I’ll
share it with him.’
Lucas’s wolf growled protectively as he turned to her. “There’s no need-”

“We’re siblings, Lucas,” she interrupted him, her green eyes wide with false innocence. “We always face things together.”
Victoria hesitated briefly, her wolf seeming to waver, but she nodded. “Very well,” she said softly. “If that’s what you wish.”
Their little display was almost amusing to watch. My silver–scarred wolf growled softly at their performance, seeing it for what it truly was.
As Lucas and Scarlett began walking toward the isolation den, a sudden movement caught
my eye.
Victoria, still trembling from the rain, fell to her knees in the courtyard mud. Her graceful demeanor crumbled further as she began digging frantically at the ground.
I froze as recognition struck me. It didn’t take long for her to unearth what she was searching
for.
A small, familiar object emerged between her trembling fingers–a moon–blessed healing
