Tessa chuckled and asked about the company's situation.
Before Nicholas could respond, Kieran immediately grumbled. "There's nothing serious going on, but the sly old men think Nicholas and I are young, so they purposely make things difficult for us. Don't worry, Tessa. No one has the guts to bully my brother."
Seeing the proud look on Kieran's face, she laughed out loud.
Just like that, the trio enjoyed their meal.
After Tessa cleaned up the table and saw Nicholas and Kieran talking about work, she suddenly wanted to help out.
"Nicholas, is there anything I can help with? I can even organize the files."
"Aren't you going home, Tessa?" Kieran looked at her in surprise.
Shaking her head, she replied, "Mom is at home taking care of the children, so there's nothing I can do anyway. I don't mind staying and helping you out."
She raised her head to look at Nicholas after that, waiting to be ordered around.
Seeing the persistence in her eyes and that he wanted her to stay with him, he agreed. "There's a piece of data on my desk that needs to be logged into the computer. Can you do that for me?"
"Of course." Tessa happily went over to take the data.
Nicholas watched his energetic wife with doting eyes.
Later, he told Edward to send a laptop to his office to ease Tessa's job.
Kieran, on the other hand, read the room and left sensibly. If he stayed any longer, he was going to watch them displaying affection again.
On the same afternoon, she stayed in Nicholas' office and helped him log in some data while he worked on his tasks on the desk.
The two were busy with their own tasks without disturbing each other, but the scene was indescribably warm.
When evening came, Edward entered the office with a serious expression. "President Sawyer, the account books from abroad have all been audited."
"How is it?" Nicholas stopped working and looked at him.
Edward responded with a glum expression, "The majority of the accounts don't tally, particularly those from Filisburg. The accounts are full of inconsistencies, so the financial department suspects that they've falsified them."
After saying that, he sensed the temperature around him drop. He raised his eyes subconsciously, and sure enough, he noticed how sour his president's face was.
Nicholas was enraged as he didn't expect the shareholders to be bold enough to cook the books!
Tessa, on the other hand, didn't look good either. Even though she was unaware of the company's situation, tampering with the accounts was a serious offense. It was also clearly irresponsible behavior toward the company and caused damage to Nicholas' interests.
A tense atmosphere instantly enveloped the office.
Tessa took note of Nicholas' sullen expression, not daring to make a sound to disturb him.
She was well aware that she wouldn't be of help at the moment, so she continued entering data into the system, hoping to help Nicholas share the burden as much as possible.
After a moment, Nicholas gave his order. "Get me the accounts from Filisburg."
"Yes, sir." Edward nodded and turned to leave.
Before long, he came back with the books.
Nicholas flipped page by page, his expression turning sullen even more. Even though he wasn't a professional accountant, he could immediately tell that the amount was faked.
There were plenty of inconsistencies in the account book that was obviously perfunctory and a challenge to him.
"What are these people up to? Are they trying to rebel?!" Unable to withstand their behavior, Nicholas tossed the account book angrily.
Edward shuddered upon hearing his boss' angry shout and dared not even breathe at this moment.
Tessa was also frightened that she stared at Nicholas dumbfoundedly. This was the first time she ever saw him so enraged.
"Nicholas…" She intended to persuade him, but she didn't know what to say.
Nicholas, on the other hand, took a deep breath upon seeing the concerned look on her face. "I'm fine. Don't worry."
After reassuring Tessa that he was fine, he turned to Edward and ordered him coldly, "Gather the management team to hold a meeting!"
