Chapter 24 Starting the game
I looked at my father questioning. My family had done some cruel things, but we have never bought young virgins to get rid of them innocently, nor to make them work for us.
Even if I didn’t agree with the whole idea, I didn’t understand why unfortunately, it seemed like it worked.
y he showed me these. This was the plan of my stupid brother and him, and
“So?” I asked my dad.
“It came directly from Signore Riccardo D’angeli. His people sent them to me this afternoon.”
“And what? This is what you wanted. Why is it so surprising?”
He smoked the cigar and let the smoke out slowly,
“Nothing surprising in it, son. You are right. This is exactly what we wanted.”
1 looked at him questioningly

He pulled out his drawer and took another envelope out of it instead of answering me.
“Have a look at it.”
I took the envelope, then I opened it. There was a sheet with information about a man who I had never seen before. I just looked at my father, confused.
“Who is him?”
“I know little about him yet, but I’m afraid this man really made a mess of our connections. I suspect he will cause hardships for us, but if I’m right, we can turn things around and benefit our family.”
“Dad, you make me confused. Why do you tell this to me?
“It helps me to think.”
I took a deep breath. I knew my dad liked to play, but I didn’t like it when he played with me, especially when I could spend my precious time with my
family
“Okay, so what is the reason you called me today?”
He smiled.
“I want you to take care of Alice.”
I couldn’t believe what I heard. I looked at him with a frown.
“Dad, you bought her to be bait. Why the hell do you want to defend her now?”
He looked at me with a sudden move.
“Do you agree w
with our iden?”
I shook my head.
“No, not at all, but this is Gideon’s business. I haven’t got the right to do anything against it, especially when I accepted and helped it as well.”
“So, do you really think a young and beautiful woman deserves to die innocently?”
“Dad, I just told you my opinion.”
Chapter 34 Starting the game
“Okay, then do that because I ask you to do so.”
1 took a deep breath.
“Why the hell did you create this madness if you want to defend her now?”
He smiled with a satisfied smile.
“I like games.”
I just looked at him. I knew he wouldn’t answer my questions. That was him. So I thought there was no point in asking him further.
“Okay, I’ll watch her. Anything else?”
He was thinking for a moment.
“Last time, Ava told me she wants to learn ice skating. Did you find a course for her?”
I looked at the ceiling first, then I looked at him.
“No dad, we talked about it with Leah, and both of us agreed we won’t let her do that, as it’s dangerous.”
“Therefore, find an excellent trainer for her.”
But he didn’t let me finish.
“Please, don’t disappoint her. Let her be happy. This is what I ask you. I want to see her doing what she likes.”
I was thinking for a moment. She was nearly begging us to let her do that, and we still didn’t know how we would tell her our decision.
“I’ll think about that. Anything else?
“No, son. I think that’s it for now.”
