Mr. Jasper Sr. scoffed, “I’m not making any betn with youl But if Min ever leaves you, don’t come running back to me. It’d be embarrassing” 

He stood up and headed toward the door. Hunter romined behind, still convinced that Mia wouldn’t leave. Mr. Jasper Sr. was certain that there would come a day when Hunter would regret it. 

Hunter raised an eyebrow, grabbed the folder, and followed him out. By the time they reached the hallway, Mia had already gone downstairs. 

Noticing her pole expression, Mr. Cooper looked concerned. “Are you feeling unwell? You don’t look too good.” 

Mia shook her head, Tm fine.” 

But the truth was, Hunter’s cruel words had cut her deeply, and It showed on her face. 

“Please sit down for a moment. I’ll get you some water Mr. Cooper hurried off to fetch a glass. 

When Mr. Jasper Sr. and Hunter arrived downstairs, Mr Jasper Sr. took in Mia sitting there quietly and spoke up, “It’s late, and it’s chilly outside. You should both stay the night. The rooms are always cleaned, and the bedding is fresh. Go upstairs and get some rest.” 

He was still hoping to help patch things up between them. Who knew, maybe overnight.

“I have court tomorrow, and I haven’t finished prepping my case. I’ll head back tonight,” Mia said softly. looking warmly at Mr. Jasper Sr. 

Hunter shot her a glance and pressed his lips together Normally, when they visited the family estate, Mia would be the one eager to stay longer, but now she was in a rush to leave. What was that about? 

“Work is important, but so is your health. Make sure you’re resting enough. Alright then, if you need to go, I won’t stop you,” Mr. Jasper Sr. said, before turning to Hunter, motioning with his hand for him to hand over the folder and make sure Mia got it. 

Mia stood and said her goodbyes. “Take care of yourself, Grandpa.” 

Mr. Jasper Sr. was the only person who treated her well. She just wished he could stay healthy forever, free from the pain of illness. 

He smiled warmly, “You take care, too. Now, hurry home.” 

As she made her way outside, Hunter stayed put, unmoving. 

Mr. Jasper Sr. nudged him with his foot. “Go hold an umbrella for Mia, you fool!” 

Hunter was like a block of wood, utterly clueless about how to act. It seemed Mia was the only one who didn’t mind and was willing to stay by his side. 

Hunter furrowed his brows, “She can hold it herself. She doesn’t need my help.” 

In his mind, Mia was completely capable, able to handle anything on her own, and didn’t need his help at 

all.
