He knew Hunter well enough to trust that he wouldn’t cheat while married, but the public didn’t care about the truth and they only saw the rumors. People would assume there was something going on between him and Jenna. 

Hunter was cold and never bothered to explain himself, let alone comfort his wife. Mia, seeing those headlines, would no doubt believe them. Over time, she would grow disappointed, and once a woman gave up on a man, there would be no turning back. 

If they had a child,” Mr. Jasper Sr. thought, “it would give them a reason to stay together.” He understood that, beneath Mia’s strong exterior, she had a soft heart. If she had a child, she wouldn’t easily consider leaving. As long as she stayed, the marriage could last. 

I’m not planning on having kids,” Hunter said bluntly, not seeing anything wrong with his answer. He didn’t love Mia, so having a child with her wasn’t even on his radar.

He was doing everything in his power to keep Mia around, and Hunter was just sabotaging it at every turn. Hunter didn’t fully dodge the ashtray, and it grazed his forehead before clattering to the floor. A thin line. of blood began to trickle down his face. 

“Get out of here! I don’t want to see you! And don’t bother coming back. You’re a disgrace!” Mr. Jasper Sr. was trembling with anger. “If Mia ever decides she’s had enough and files for divorce, don’t come crying to me for help! 

Hunter had been cold and detached ever since they found him and brought him into the family. Mr. Jasper Sr. had always feared he’d end up alone. But that all changed the day Hunter met Mia, the woman who had saved his life. 

Mia was beautiful, intelligent, and independent. She was a top law graduate from the prestigious university in Haven City. Girls like her were one in a million, and her marriage to Hunter was an honor for the Jasper family. 

Mr. Jasper Sr. had moved heaven and earth to make sure they ended up together. He had hoped that, over time, Hunter would come to see Mia’s worth and fall in love with her. But after three years, nothing had changed. The relationship hadn’t deepened at all. 

Watching this slow burn frustrated Mr. Jasper Sr. to no end. He genuinely feared Mia would leave. With Hunter’s temperament, no one would be able to live with him for long. 

The thought of it made his blood boil. He wanted to smack some sense into his grandson. 

Hunter wiped the blood from his forehead, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. “If Mia divorces me, who’s going to handle the mess at her family’s business? Who’s going to pay for her grandmother’s expensive medication? With her salary, she couldn’t even afford the clothes she’s wearing right now. Trust me, she won’t and she can’t file for divorce.” 

He was certain Mia wouldn’t leave him. 

Mia, who had heard the commotion, rushed upstairs and arrived just in time to hear Hunter’s cruel words.
