But whether Xena and the Smith family would be involved, that was hard to say. And if it wasn’t Zac, then who? 

“Mia, you’re not looking so well! What’s the matter? Worried the new boss won’t offer you the same perks you’re used to? Feeling a bit nervous, aren’t you?” 

Hearing the voice, Mia looked up to see Zoe Baker standing in front of her. 

Zoe had joined the firm the same day as her, but she still hadn’t argued a case in court on her own, mostly handling civil dispute mediations. Meanwhile, Mia had flourished, earning her reputation as a top- tier attorney. She knew Zoe resented her success. 

If Mia responded to Zoe’s sneering, it would only give others an excuse to accuse her of being petty. Those already jealous of her would jump at the chance to judge her from their so–called moral high ground. 

So, she often chose to avoid Zoe or stay silent. It was not because she was afraid, but because she didn’t want to waste her energy on people who didn’t matter. 

Well, you know, when you rely on ‘favors‘ for your success, it never lasts.” Zoe’s tone grew bolder, knowing Mia wouldn’t respond. “But hey, tomorrow when the new boss arrives, you can just switch targets and cozy up to him! After all, what’s the difference between sleeping with one man or ten?” Zoe laughed, and the others joined in. 

Mia was beautiful, skilled, and highly competent, which had drawn plenty of envy at the firm and left her with few allies among her peers. In a moment like this, there was no one who would step in to defend her. Zoe looked at Mia, standing alone, and thought to herself. If it hadn’t been for Mia joining the firm the same year, she would surely have climbed higher by now instead of being stuck as a mediator. 

Zoe believed everything wrong in her career was Mia’s fault. So what if she threw a few insults her way 

way? She felt completely justified. 

Mia gave a cold smile, stepped forward, and snatched Zoe’s coffee cup. Without hesitation, she splashed the scalding coffee onto Zoe’s face. 

Zoe screamed, instinctively reaching up to cover her face, but stopped, terrified that touching her burning skin might make it worse. 

“Mia, you b****! How dare you throw coffee at me!” Zoe glared, her face red and twisted in rage. 

Mia pressed the coffee cup back into Zoe’s hand, looking down at her with a half–smile. “Don’t blame your lack of talent on me,” she said coolly. “Oh, and speaking of getting cozy with people at the firm, I happened to see you having quite the after–hours ‘meeting‘ in the office last weekend. What’s the matter? Couldn’t afford a hotel room?” 

If Zoe had kept to herself, Mia would have let the incident slide. But since Zoe insisted on pushing her. Mia had no qualms about outing her. 

The others, overhearing, couldn’t resist chiming in. 

“Wait, Zoe? With someone here at the firm? Now I need details!”
