“Anyone fancy giving this a shot?” The staff member asked the intrigued crowd.
Quite a few hands shot up in response. Violette wanted to raise her hand too, but her body seemed to be frozen in place, as if she was under some sort of spell. She had almost forgotten about the horrifying events back home, but now those memories came rushing back.
She never thought that technology had progressed this far. A robot could mimic human voices? Could it be possible that when Sarah had been viciously attacked, the voice she heard was from a robot?
A woman was invited on stage. She greeted the robot, “Hi there, my name is Lily, and I’d like to test if you can really mimic my voice.”
The robot paused for a few seconds before responding, “Hello Lily, I am currently trying to mimic your voice! Do you think I sound like you?”
Laughter erupted from the crowd. The robot’s imitation was somewhat accurate, but it was still a machine after all. It spoke slower and lacked the emotion of a human voice, which made it sound a bit odd.
Violette’s tense heart eased a bit. This was not what she had expected.
“Boss, are you interested in this?” The bodyguard asked. “This robot’s imitation is not even as good as some impressionist comedians!”
“Really? Can people really fully mimic voices?” Violette had never paid attention to this before.
“Of course! You could find a bunch on the internet! It’s no big deal.” The bodyguard said before pointing forward, “Boss, they have a raffle going on there. Let’s try our luck!”
Violette followed her bodyguard, but her mind was still a whirlwind of thoughts.
“Ian, you choose!” The bodyguard lifted Ian up for him to draw a raffle ticket.
Ian was not particularly interested in the raffle, but the prizes aroused his interest. The grand prize was a super cool robot. If they were to buy it, it would definitely cost a pretty penny.
That man was unmistakably Elijah!
What was he doing here? When did he arrive? What was he here for?
She quickly made her way towards him. Her bodyguard and Ian were still immersed in the joy of winning the prize and didn’t notice her departure.
Elijah saw her coming and quickly turned to leave.
Mike had told him how Sarah’s suicide had left Violette emotionally unstable. If he was a man, he should apologize for doubting her. So, he had come.
“Elijah!” Violette saw him trying to leave and called out his name loudly. “Stop right there!”
