Chapter 123
rome shielded Mikayla from the shattered car window, taught her how to drive, and came to her rescue when Taylor attempted to abduct her. At times, Mikayla would get angry at him, but he endured her rage.
He had even suggested sleeping in the same room so they could act as a couple for some time. Past Jerome wouldn’t have done that.
“Kay, I can tell he cares about you,” Eduard said. “He said he had to attend a meeting that morning, but everyone could tell he came specifically to visit you because you didn’t go home for the entire night.
“He gifted me a fountain pen because he wanted to please you. He wants you to know that he cares about your family, too.”
Indeed, Mikayla would be over the moon if this happened in the past. Yet, sorrow was the only thing that filled her chest now. He didn’t cherish her when she loved him wholeheartedly, but he refused to let her go when she gave up and decided to file a divorce.
“Grandpa, it simply isn’t enough for me to stay with him,” Mikayla replied. “Once we’re divorced, he would get his freedom. He has nothing to do with me in the future, and I will no longer long for him.”
Eduard sighed. “Kay, I’m not forcing you to stay with him. I know how stubborn you are. When you were a child, you ruined a rabbit plushie you loved dearly.
bought you countless new ones, but you were reluctant to give up on it. You insisted on fixing it. You held onto it until it reached a state beyond repair. And reluctantly, you finally discarded it. Ever since then, you no longer own a plushie.
“That’s why I agreed to your marriage even though I knew you and Jerome weren’t a good match. I know you won’t fall for another man once you have your eyes on him.
“Kay, all I want is for you to understand your heart. Think about whether you should give yourself another
chance.”
While Mikayla was in the car, Eduard’s words lingered in her mind. What he said made sense. She had always been stubborn; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been besotted with Jerome in her past life. She thought this no longer mattered to her after experiencing death herself, but she couldn’t tell Eduard about
this.
Thus, she promised him that she would think it over.
There were still ten more days until Wanda’s birthday. Jerome assured her that he would agree to their divorce if her decision remained the same by then. Wanda also promised to not go against their decision
after that.
Propping her head against the car window, she allowed her mind to wander. Celeste’s call snapped her
back to her senses as Celeste inquired about the updates on her divorce. She burst into a fit of laughter
