They were there to ask for Jerome’s help in a project they failed to secure.” Though Mikayla’s reason sounded plausible, Celeste thought that Jerome must have had his fair share in it. 

Celeste exclaimed, “The fact that you failed to divorce him means that I was right!” 

“Your imagination is wild. I think you’d be better off as an author than a nurse,” Mikayla quipped. 

“I’ll consider. Maybe I’ll start a book titled ‘The Tale of How My Gullible Friend Always Failed to Divorce Her Husband.“” 

Mikayla was rendered speechless. “That’s so cliché. You’re still better suited to be a nurse.” 

The car reached the downtown area while she bickered with Celeste. Gazing at the dawning sunset, she was reminded of her promise to Michael that she was going to the dojo that day. She instructed the driver to drop her off at a restaurant near the dojo and left for the dojo after she ate. 

The dojo manager, Zach Lawson, hurriedly dragged the coach from last time’s incident over to apologize to Mikayla. It had been a while, so she was no longer bothered by it. “It’s fine as long as you don’t make things difficult for Michael.” 

“Michael might not be able to work part–time at our dojo for some time,” Zach remarked. “Mrs. Miller, you can opt for another coach or a refund.” 

“Why can’t he work part–time here?” Mikayla was confused. He didn’t bring this up when she met them over a meal yesterday. She thought Jerome wouldn’t be that petty. Or would he? 

Zach answered, “He just told me today that he was going for an audition.” 

Mikayla was enlightened. She was only aware that he’d become one of the best in a talent show, but she wasn’t sure when this was going to take place. 

“Mikayla.” Michael’s voice resonated across the dojo when he spotted her. As she went up to him, he continued, “You’re early today.” His voice was lilted and natural as he spoke, “Let’s go for a drink after your training session. I have something to tell you.‘ 

Chuckling, Mikayla replied, “Mr. Lawson told me about it. You’re participating in a talent show, aren’t you? All the best. You guys will win this!” 

“You’re exaggerating, Kay.” Michael blushed, scratching his head. “A friend from KK introduced us to the talent show, and the audition’s just around the corner. I’m so sorry that I don’t have the time to coach you 

after you booked so many sessions with me.” 

“No biggie! Don’t worry about that. I’ll just get another coach.” Mikayla comforted him. “As a punishment, you’ll have to coach me for two sessions today,” she–quipped. 

“Sure!” Michael beamed. 

Meticulously, he guided Mikayla through hours of self–defense techniques. He told her that anyone could teach her sparring, but self–defense was his area of expertise.
