Chapter 176
Jerome remained calm.
“Is she here as well?!
His unexpected response stunned Baldwin.
Mikayla knew that Baldwin misunderstood their relationship because of the cucumber prank.
He probably teased them as he thought they were putting on an act.
She called out to Baldwin to ease the awkwardness nonetheless.
“Professor Xander.”
Jerome spun around, but she paid him no attention.
Instead, she said, “Thank you so much for letting me have a tour around the institute. I’ll get going first,”
Mikayla barely took a step into his office before she left swiftly.
Just as she reached her car, she realized Jerome was walking toward her as well.
Wasn’t he visiting Baldwin regarding something important?
Why did he come out so quickly?
Still, she didn’t bother with him.
She opened the door and was just about to get in when Jerome stopped her.
“Are you really here for the distribution rights?”
“Yeah. What about it?”
Jerome’s gaze was fixated on her as he said, “If so, why did you leave in a hurry? Isn’t taking advantage of the situation your forte?”
Mikayla wondered whether he was implying that he’d help her out.
Amused, she retorted, “I heard that this project is under Ms. White. How can I even take advantage of the situation?”
Jerome furrowed his eyebrows.
Chapter 176
“Are you pissed because Kylle came over to work on the project as the chief director?”
Well, that wasn’t why Mikayla was pissed.
She was pissed at him, specifically!
A surge of exasperation flooded through her as she recalled the pair of diamond earrings.
“Jerome, what do you want? Spit it out, or get lost! I don’t want any of your nonsense right now!”
He used to say that to her often.
She was so familiar with it that her impersonation of it was immaculate.
As expected, Jerome’s expression darkened.
Struggling to maintain his composure, he asked in a strained voice, “Why didn’t you accept my call?”
Mikayla snickered.
“Don’t ask me that. Aren’t you an expert at that? I believe you know better excuses than I do.”
Jerome was at a loss for words.
“I didn’t pick up your call because I was in a meeting. When I came out of the meeting, you were already at my office.”
“Are you developing dementia? Is that the only time you didn’t answer my calls?” she snapped.
Mikaya used to call or text him very often back then.
It made him extremely irritated, and he would neglect her calls or texts on purpose.
Looking at how she began to dredge up their past, Jerome recalled what Connor told him.
If he couldn’t manage to coax a woman in time, she’d bring up every single incident she
was mad at.
