Jerome probably saw Taylor stopping Mikayla from leaving. So, Mikayla didn’t feel the need to explain the situation to him. 

After all, between Kylie and herself, Jerome was much closer to Kylie. He never explained himself, so why should she explain anything to him? 

“Let’s go,” Mikayla instructed the driver. 

The driver then looked back at Jerome, waiting for his command. 

Jerome withdrew his gaze and signaled the driver to drive. 

Then he asked Mikayla, “Are you meeting Taylor again?” 

“What are you trying to say?” Mikayla scoffed. “What does it have to do with me if you both don’t get along? Why can’t I see him?” 

Jerome was taken aback by her retort. 

“Mikayla, can’t you speak nicely to me?” he said 

“I’m sorry. This is who I am. I can’t talk nicely to you,” Mikayla retorted. 

Sure enough, the coquettish voice Jerome heard from the phone was no longer 

present. 

Jerome didn’t want to fight with her, so he asked, “Did something happen just now? 

Did Taylor caused you any trouble? 

Despite everything, Jerome’s intervention did come in the nick of time. 

It’s a small matter, not really a problem, Mikayla replied, her tone softened slightly. 

Taylor called her over with some ulterior motives in mind, but he also held something she wanted. She couldn’t afford to go against him. 

“Why did you call me?” Mikayla suddenly remembered and asked. 

Jerome knew she wasn’t telling the truth. But he also knew that, even if he pressured, 

her, she wouldn’t reveal it. 

Putting his discomfort aside, he asked, “How’s your shoulder? You didn’t overwork it, did you?” 

“Nope,” she replied. 

Mikayla hadn’t even driven the car out. She valued her life so much now, she 

wouldn’t go against any medical advice. 

“Is that why you called?” Mikayla was puzzled. 

Jerome explained, “My dad will be returning to the country soon. Did Grandma tell. you?” 

Mikayla nodded. “Yes. Is he coming back today?” 

“In a couple of days,” Jerome replied. “He’s not comfortable staying at the Miller Manor, and the Miller Villa has been vacant for a long time. There is only a maid who does the cleaning all this while. We may have to go over and make some arrangements.” 

So that was the reason. 

“I’m not going.” “I’ve never met Mr. Zachary so I’ve no idea about his habits. I won’t be of any help. Besides, my shoulder still hurts a lot,” Mikayla explained. 

She decided that she didn’t want to take up the responsibility. 

“Your shoulder didn’t hurt when you came to see Taylor, but it’d hurt if you went to 

the Miller Jerome asked. 

“It hurts. That’s why I want to go back and rest,” Mikayla said. 

Jerome fell silent.
