Chapter 40
Wanda was seated in the armchair while a few elegantly dressed women conversed with
her.
“Grandma!” Mikayla called out in a bright tone.
The crowd’s attention was drawn over.
A radiant smile spread across Wanda’s face when she caught sight of Mikayla.
“Look who’s here!”
Mikayla and Jerome approached Wanda.
“Grandma. Greetings to all the lovely ladies here,” Jerome greeted politely.
“You’re truly a caring person, Jerome. Unlike some in our family who claim to be busy all the time, you always make time for Grandma!”
“Exactly. Is there anything that can keep Jerome too occupied? He’s in charge of Miller Group but still managed to find time to be here. Frankly, he must find us elders a bit bothersome.”
“Certainly! Jerome is both capable and devoted. Mrs. Miller Senior is certainly fortunate
to have him!”
Jerome maintained a faint smile as he listened to the praises.
He glanced at Mikayla briefly and replied, “Aunts, you’re too kind. But I don’t get as much time as I’d like to spend with Grandma. Kay usually takes care of that.”
Mikayla thought she had misheard him when Jerome uttered her hickname, “Kay“.
Jerome had never addressed her that way, even in social situations.
Mikayla fixed her gaze on Jerome as she tried to discern something from his expression.
Nevertheless, Jerome remained composed. She couldn’t find anything inappropriate.
Wanda observed Jerome and Mikayla’s expressions calmly.
She then quipped to Jerome, “You’ve got it figured out. You finally know how to treat Kay right!”
“Exactly! Kay is sure a devoted child! She’s not only pretty but also a perfect match for
2/3
Jerome!”
The group of women continued to praise Mikayla.
Amidst the compliments, some uncles sought to have a word with Jerome.
Akin to a caring husband, Jerome suggested to Mikayla, “Why don’t you stay with Grandma? I’ll be right over there.”
Mikayla acted in concert, displaying a poised smile.
“Sure.
“Kay and Jerome’s relationship is really getting better!”
One of the aunts addressed Mikayla and asked, “When are you and Jerome planning on having kids? Perhaps it’s time for us all to level up! Right, Mrs. Miller Senior?”
Wanda chuckled and replied, “Why the rush? Kay still has a long way to go. She’ll have kids when she’s ready. I’m not old–fashioned, and I won’t force her.”
After exchanging conversation and laughter, Wanda mentioned wanting to stroll in the garden. Mikayla then readily offered to accompany her.
Mikayla supported Wanda as they headed to the garden.
“Kay, it’s been a while since you last gave me a call. Don’t tell me you’re avoiding having me as your Grandma?” Wanda asked in a teasing tone.
“How could I, Grandma?” Mikayla said in a coquettish tone.
“I’ve said it before. You’d still be my grandma, even if Jerome and I were to divorce!”
“Don’t say that, Kay.”
Wanda gently tapped Mikayla’s head.
“It’s typical for young couples to have disagreements. They always make up in the end. Did you have the broth that I sent to you last time?”
