Chapter 8
Mikayla quietly chuckled to herself.
She had walted eight years in her past life, only to receive a divorce certificate and the news of Jerome marrying Kylle.
How could Jerome possibly fall in love with her in just a few short days?
Wanda asked again, “Should Jerome recognize your admirable qualities and develop affection for you, would you still desire a divorce?”
Mikayla nodded affirmatively under the gaze of Wanda’s optimism. “Yes.”
No matter how events unfolded in this lifetime, she wished to sever all ties with Jerome. The bitterness of love had taken its toll, and she yearned to distance herself from him, eager to embark on a fresh start.
After leaving the hall of the old mansion, Mikayla saw Jerome sitting expressionlessly in
the car.
After all the
fuss about the divorce, they ultimately didn’t get to divorce.
Jerome must have surmised that this must have been a meticulously rehearsed performance between her and Wanda. Once Mikayla got into the car, she would inevitably face insults and questioning from Jerome.
With that thought in mind, Mikayla planned to ignore him and take a taxi.
“Get in the car!” Jerome ordered coldly.
“Thanks, but you’re not going my way,” Mikayla replied, equally cold.
She was annoyed that they didn’t manage to get the divorce settled. On top of that, she didn’t want to subject herself to Jerome’s temper.
“Mikayla, get in!” Jerome’s tone held a cautionary note.
“Why are you shouting? If you have the guts, go ahead and file for divorce now!” Mikayla retorted with anger. This was the first time she confronted Jerome like this.
Jerome’s anger visibly intensified. “Fine!”
Without fully understanding his intentions, Mikayla observed Jerome exiting the car.
Before she could react, he seized her!
“Let go of me!”
Mikayla turned her head and bit down on his arm
Jerome winced in pain but didn’t release her. Instead, be tossed her into the car.
“Drive!” Jerome commanded the driver.
Since the car had started, Mikayla couldn’t escape. She quickly took out her phone and pointed the camera at Jerome.
She warned, “I’ll expose you immediately if you dare to hit me! I’ll call the police!”
“Call the police?” Jerome reacted as if he heard something ridiculous and leaned in toward her.
Jerome’s towering figure caused Mikayla to suddenly feel a sense of oppression. Her hand holding the phone instinctively retracted in the slightest.
“W–What do you want?” Mikayla stammered.
‘Aren’t you tough? Why so nervous?” Jerome sneered, lifting his wrist to show deep bite
markes.
“You bit pretty hard. If I hit you, it would be considered as self–defense!”
Seeing this, Mikayla regained her composure.
In her previous life, Jerome never laid a hand on her, no matter how much he despised
her.
He probably wasn’t someone who would harm a woman.
The faint scent of cedar overwhelmed Mikayla, with Jerome close. Uncomfortable, she frowned and pushed him away.
Jerome was pushed backward and nearly hit the car window.
“Mikayla, are you addicted to being pretentious?” Jerome snapped.
Mikayla didn’t hold back in her retort. “You toppled like a weakling with just one push. Is that my fault?”
Jerome choked.
Chapter
Mikayla had never been so assertive in front of him, nor had she ever uttered such
sarcastic remarks.
“Fine, Mikayla,” Jerome spat out with irritation, “Are you finally coming back as your senses? You’ve noticed today’s chaos and are attempting to divert attention away from it?”
