Chapter 9 

Jerome’s expression softened when he saw who was calling. He swiped open his screen, 

“Jerome, the meeting with Bernal Enterprise is about to start. How soon can you get here?” 

Silence enveloped the car. Kylie’s gentle voice came through Jerome’s phone, and Mikayla heard everything. 

Jerome had recently acquired Bernhal Enterprise, with Kylie appointed as the director, 

In her previous life, Kylie had achieved remarkable results at Bernhal. She earned quite a reputation in her workplace, 

Mikayla was dissatisfied and sought to prove her capabilities in the Miller Group. 

In response, she faced Jerome’s mockery. 

“You want to work? Do you even understand how to survive in the workplace? Kylie dedicated so much time and effort to gain the board’s recognition. Do you think you can achieve that so easily?” 

“Mikayla, Kylie may not have the background resources you do. But she’s diligent and well–educated! Unlike you, other than bullying others, you have no other skills!” 

“Alright, I got it.” 

Jerome ended the call. 

Mikayla snapped out of her recollection, too. 

Jerome’s face overlapped with the one from her previous life. Mikayla suddenly felt suffocated. 

“Mr. Ashford, please pull over. I need to get off.” 

“Mrs. Miller, it’s not easy to get a cab here. Why don’t you go to the company with Mr. Miller, and I’ll send you back later?” 

“No need. Just pull over here.” 

Mikayla had no intention of spending another minute with Jerome.

Mike didn’t immediately stop the car. He glanced at Jerome through the rearview mirror and walted for his instructions, 

Jerome’s anger resurfaced as he noticed Mikayla’s Impatience. “Stop the car. Let her get. off!” 

Mike obeyed Jerome’s instructions and pulled over at the side of the road. 

Without hesitation, Mikayla exited the car. She slammed the door shut behind her. 

“Mikayla, if you dare use Grandma as leverage again, I won’t let you off!” 

Mikayla ignored Jerome’s warning. She walked forward without looking back. 

Jerome was frustrated. He lashed out at Mike. “What are you waiting for? Do you want to wait until the sky turns dark?” 

Mike remained silent. 

Mikayla booked a ride on her phone. Despite the extra cost due to the distance, she felt a sense of relief. 

She headed to the hospital first for a comprehensive health check. She got a checkup on her stomach. 

It was too agonizing to suffer from stomach cancer. She vowed to take good care of her health and eliminate any possibility of cancer. 

The results would take a few days, so Mikayla returned to Dragoncrest Villa. 

Amy had placed the suitcases she retrieved yesterday in their original spot. 

“Madam, is Mr. Miller coming back today? Should we take out the suitcases again?” 

Mikayla fell silent. 

She wondered if Amy thought she was merely putting on a show and only talking about getting a divorce yesterday because Jerome was returning. 

Speechless, she ruled out the suspicion of Amy tattling on her to Wanda. 

Who was the one who exposed her? 

She was so close to drawing a clear line with Jerome! 

She had promised Wanda to stay in Dragoncrest Villa before the divorce. Hence, she couldn’t leave yet. 

Chaptery 

The next day, Mikayla decided to practice her driving skills. 

She got her driver’s license when she graduated from high school. After several years without driving, she had become quite rusty. 

She decided to pick up this skill again to make future travels more convenient. 

In the corner of the garage sat the Maserati that her grandfather had gifted her when she married. But she couldn’t bring herself to drive it. With her skills, she might scratch the 

car. 

So, she chose one of Jerome’s cars. Relying on her memory, she drove the car out of the 

garage. 

Finally, she arrived on the road. Mikayla didn’t dare venture into the bustling city center. Instead, she drove slowly on quieter roads. 

When she went out again in the afternoon, Mikayla felt her confidence returning. She could drive slightly faster than in the morning. 

Up ahead was a turning at the intersection. Just as Mikayla was about to make the turn, a small dog darted out and startled her. She abruptly jerked the steering wheel. 

A bang rang out as she collided with a car coming from the main road.
