Chapter 97
Rushing over, Kylie offered an apologetic look to Mikayla and spoke in a formal yet polite tone, “Sorry, Mrs. Miller. I need a moment with Mr. Miller.”
She then turned to Jerome and added, “Mr. Reynolds wants to see you.”
Jerome cast a quick glance at Mikayla and whispered, “Get some rest. I’ll catch up with you later.”
Mikayla responded with a smile, “Sure thing.”
Out of the blue, Betty spoke up, “Don’t worry, Mr. Miller. We’ll take good care of your wife.”
Jerome retained his composure upon hearing her voice, as if he had expected her arrival.
Although Kylie was puzzled by Betty’s sudden appearance, she didn’t dwell on it and promptly trailed after
Jerome.
Once Jerome was out of sight, those who had eyed Mikayla with envy now exchanged meaningful glances. Even with urgent matters demanding his attention, Jerome still gave his wife the cold shoulder.
Luckily, Betty swiftly stepped in and comforted Mikayla. “It’s the men’s job to deal with trifles, Mrs. Miller. Just chill out and enjoy yourself.”
Turning her attention to the gathered guests, she announced, “Ladies, we have just released a new wine flavor. I have brought over some samples for you to taste. Feel free to share your thoughts.
“Plus, I’ve got extra treats for you to take home. Think of it as a gift for our first meeting. No complaints
allowed!”
Upon hearing her words, the guests graciously accepted her gifts. Betty proved herself to be a true career woman–not only was she decisive, but she also had a knack for seizing opportunities.
Initially worried about potential gossip and ridicule, Mikayla was relieved to see that Betty appeared
unfazed by such concerns.
In fact, Betty took the opportunity to enhance her own reputation and promote her new wine.
Mikayla was talking with the guests when an anxious voice suddenly called out, “There you are, Kay!”
Turning around, she spotted Aubrey rushing toward her and couldn’t help but frown. After all, they just had a big fight in the afternoon–how could Aubrey now act as if nothing had happened?
Annoyed, Mikayla questioned in a disgruntled tone, “What do you want?”
*Come with me for a sec.” Undeterred by her displeasure, Aubrey seized her hand and guided her toward a group of elegantly dressed women.
*Take a good damn look here! She’s Mrs. Miller!
“Kylie is just a director. How can you insist that that woman is the future Mrs. Miller? You really need to
get your eyes checked!” Aubrey declared to the stylish women,
The women cast disdainful glances at Mikayla, and one of them scoffed. “Even if she’s the real deal, I’ve never seen her with Mr. Miller. Instead, it’s always Ms. White accompanying him at events”
Another chimed in, “Exactly Mr. Miller treats Ms. White incredibly well.
“He not only supports her work but even goes so far as to acquire Berhal Enterprise for her, giving her the opportunity to prove her independence. Not everyone gets that kind of treatment!”
“The thing is, Ms. White deserves it. She graduated from a prestigious academy and boasts an impressive investment record from her years abroad. She’s not just eye candy, unlike some,” another jeered.
Aubrey snapped back, “What are you implying? Mikayla earned her CFA while still an undergraduate. She’s way better than Kylie!”
One of the women sneered. “Oh, come on! We all know getting a CFA is tough. Most people need to pursue a master’s or a Ph.D. for that.
“And you’re saying she got it as an undergrad? Sounds fishy!”
