You Married The Wrong Woman
“You can go now,‘ Austyn sald to Paul.
The manager dragged his feet.
He wanted to ask if he’d done the right thing, but his boss did not look to be in the mood to enlighten him.
He shuffled out of the office.
“What are you doing here?‘ Austyn crossed his arms.
‘Can’t a man visit his buddy at work?‘ Luca wore a mysterious smile on his lips.
“I’m busy.”
“Of course you are. The M Group’s president is always wheeling and dealing. The economy of Stamford will fall apart without you.”
“If you’re done mocking me, you can leave now. Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.”
Luca shrugged. ‘Fine, so you don’t want to hear the news I’ve brought.”
“What news?” Austyn scrolled through his ‘Contacts‘ list.
He did not have Giana’s number.
Kai must have it.
He should get Kai to call her and ask if Kira was with her.
Luca pulled out a chair and invited himself to sit down, crossing his legs at the ankles.
“Can’t you unglue your eyes from the phone for just a minute and talk to your buddy?”
Austyn didn’t spare him a glance.
He called Kai’s extension number.
The assistant’s office was right down the hall.
No one was picking up.
Where the hell was Kai?
“Hello? Luca waved a hand in front of Austyn. “Are you Istening?”
Austyn glared at him. ‘If you have something to say, just spit it out!”
‘Tsk, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.” Luca smiled again.
He looked forward to seeing the man’s face when he knew Kira was at the police station.
‘I’m calling security.”
Luca swore when he saw Austyn dialling on the landline.
He jumped up from his chair and grabbed the handset, slamming it down to end the call
“I was just kidding. Gosh, who pissed in your coffee?
Austyn was about to call Kai when his phone rang.
Luca glimpsed the caller ID.
2/3
He leaned back in the leather chair. ‘Your paramour called. Aren’t you going to answer it?
Austyn tapped the green button.
Kayleigh’s soft voice came on the line. ‘Austyn, are you done with work?
‘I was in a meeting when you called earlier.”
‘I know.”
She should count herself lucky that he bothered to explain to her.
‘How are you feeling?”
‘Better. My agent brought over some soup, but I couldn’t keep it down. Could you come over?”
I’m busy right now. Maybe later.”
‘Oh, okay. I’ll wait for you, no matter what time it is.”
The office was quiet.
Luca heard both ends of the conversation clearly.
He shook his head.
The legally wedded wife was languishing in jail.
The mistress, on the other hand, was waited on hand and foot.
And basking in the softly spoken words of consolation from Austyn.
Luca felt sorry for the wife.
Kayleigh gave a blow–by–blow account of her day at the hospital–the tests, the medications, the changing of her wound dressing.
She was reluctant to end the call.
When she sensed Austyn was getting impatient, she said, as offhandedly as she could manage, “My
lawyer just called. He said you ordered him to make sure the people who did this to me would suffer. Is that true?‘
Austyn recalled the phone call with the lawyer.
Kayleigh was with MS Entertainment.
Austyn had a majority share in the company, so technically, the corporate lawyer worked for him.
He did instruct the lawyer to throw the book at the two perps.
worry about this. I said I would take care of it. You just focus on getting yourself better.”
‘Don’t worry
He couldn’t see the brilliant smile on Kayleigh’s face.
So what if she beat up Kira and her bitch friend?
Austyn had sided with her.
Luca was grinning from ear to ear.
He couldn’t wait to see the look on Austyn’s face when he knew the truth.
The president gave him a dirty look.
Luca cleared his throat and feigned nonchalance. ‘I heard your lover was sent to the hospital. Someone
beat her up. Do you know who the culprits are?
‘Doesn’t matter who they are,” Austyn sald Impassively. It’s not Important. A la everything.‘
“Oh? Luca cocked an eyebrow. ‘So you don’t know who they are.”
‘I don’t. Neither do I care.”
Austyn glanced towards the open office door.
Where the hell was Kai?
