Every breath she took was filled with his cologne. 

“Move.‘ She nudged him. 

This position made her feel vulnerable. 

His breaths were heating up her cheeks. 

Austyn didn’t budge. 

She pushed his broad shoulders, in vain. 

‘Your phone was taken from you last night,‘ Austyn said. ‘Why didn’t you call me before that?” 

He was away on a business trip, but she didn’t know that. 

Didn’t she worry when he disappeared for three days? 

Not counting Friday night when she was arrested, that was still three days and two nights. 

60 hours. 

3,600 minutes. 

216,000 seconds. 

Didn’t she miss him for even just one of those seconds? 

Kira snorted. “Would you have picked up if I called?” 

His question dredged up another bad memory. 

She had been so scared on the night of the storm. 

The house was pitch black. 

She was alone in the bedroom, with thunder roaring overhead and lightning flashing right outside the window. 

She swallowed her pride and called him. 

What did she get? 

A woman’s voice, sweet as pie, telling her–no, informing her, like she was an unreasonable customer calling after business hours–that Mr McCarthy was unavailable. 

When Kira asked her who she was, what was it that she said? 

‘I’m the person keeping Mr McCarthy company tonight 

Kira had hung up at that point. 

She was not going to listen to any more details of how Mr McCarthy planned to ravish that woman. The thought of Austyn having sex with another woman made her bile rise 

She felt sick.

He pulled her in for another kiss, hot, hard, demanding. 

Kira was getting light–headed. 

His tongue took possession of her mouth, and his hands her body. 

When her oxygen–deprived brain finally processed his words, she struggled.

She shoved him in vain, then she clawed at him, but her trimmed nails were useless. 

“You disgusting pig! Let me go!” 

What kind of monster talked about banging one woman while making out with another? 

Austyn tasted a teardrop. 

When he saw her red eyes, he burst out laughing. ‘You fool!” 

‘YOU’RE a fool!” 

How she wanted to smack that stupid grin off his stupid face! 

Austyn’s chest vibrated with laughter. I didn’t do anything with her. I didn’t touch the woman, not even a hair. There was more than an arm’s length between me and her at all times, okay?” 

After the woman left, he showered again and called housekeeping to change the sheets she’d lain on. 

He never liked explaining himself. 

Action spoke much louder than words, in his opinion. 

But short of showing her footage of that night in the hotel–which he didn’t have, explaining was all he could do. 

Kira didn’t buy it. 

Men were all the same. 

She didn’t know what that woman looked like, but she sure had the voice of a seductress over the phone. 

A leopard can’t change its spots. 

A cheater couldn’t resist the temptation. 

She refused to believe Austyn did nothing with that woman. 

Her scepticism was written all over her face, emboldened, italicised, underlined, in gigantic font size. 

“You know, there’s another way to prove I’m not lying to you,‘ Austyn whispered, his voice husky. 

“Are you going to produce another witness in your pocket? Kira bit back a moan. 

The man’s hands were under her t–shirt, lighting little fires on her skin. 

‘Did you know that if a man has recently had sex, he won’t be easily excited again soon afterwards?” 

Kira couldn’t help blushing. 

What the hell was he talking about? 

Austyn found her hand and guided it to his pants. ‘All the evidence you need is right here.” 

She Wabed She Was Dead Right 

Kira was forced to cup his hot, throbbing manhood. 

He thrust his hips towards her. 

“You said you wanted to be a journalist, right? Then you shouldn’t just take someone’s word for it.” 

His hand still on hers, he coached her to unzip his pants. 

“You must learn to verify one’s statements.” 

He moved her hand to her jeans and undid the zipper. 

“Fact–checking. I think they call it.” 

He pulled her skinny jeans down over her hips. 

“Take a more…hands–on approach.” 

With two fingers, he pushed aside her panties. 

‘Want to know if I’m telling the truth?” 

He stroked her. 

She was wet and ready. 

‘See for yourself.” 

He entered her. 

Kira gasped. 

The man seemed so eager to prove the veracity of his statement, he moved with unbridled ferocity. 

She was standing on tiptoe on her left leg. 

He held her right leg with one hand and cupped her buttocks with the other. 

He rammed into her, hard and fast, not allowing her a chance to catch her breath. 

Kira wanted to protest, but her mouth was occupied. 

Soon, her brain lost the battle as well, being flooded with oxytocin. 

Kira gave herself to him and allowed him to demonstrate the truthfulness of his statement to the utmost degree. 

‘Kira, are you in there?‘ 

The bathroom door was pushed open. 

Giana’s pale face appeared in the doorway. 

She had one hand on the IV stand and the other on the door. 

Her eyes came to rest on the intertwined figures in front of the far wall. 

Everyone froze. 

Two seconds that felt like two centuries later. 

“Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh!‘ 

Glana’s scream pierced the silence in the bathroom.

She moved a trembling hand up, pointing at the vertical ‘beast with two backs.‘ 

“Who…what…you…” 

The girl whose back was against the wall and whose face was flushed was her best friend, Kira. 

But who the heck was the man with Kira’s leg wrapped around his waist? 

Austyn turned his face around. ‘Get out!” 

No man could stand getting interrupted in the middle of ‘fact–checking.” 

His growl startled Giana out of her trance. 

She about–turned and shuffled as fast as she could out of the bathroom, dragging her IV stand with her. 

“Close the door!” Austyn shouted. 

Kira buried her head on his shoulder.. 

Her cheeks were burning up. 

‘Kill me,‘ she groaned. 

She wished she was dead right now. 

Struck by lightning. 

Or hit by a meteor and pulverised. 

Anything was better than letting her best friend walk in on her while she was. 

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh! 

Why did this have to happen to her?
