Kira shoved his head away. 

Austyn sat up. 

A smile slowly spread across his face 1.

right. You’re not the same as… You’re a good girl. 

‘Not every woman finds it fun to cheat, you know.‘ Kira sneered. 

Then remembering Deborah had passed away, she grimaced. ‘Sorry, I shouldn’t have spoken ill of the dead.” 

Austyn shook his head. ‘Don’t apologise. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have doubted you. Or compared you to her. It’s me who owes you an apology.” 

Kira didn’t know what to say. 

She’d lost track of how many times the man had apologised to her today. 

For a while, neither of them spoke. 

A hush descended over the bedroom. 

Kira lay on her back, listening to the cicadas quarrelling with the frogs in the garden. downstairs. 

The sound of croaking reminded her of her ‘gift‘ to Austyn. 

The man had been so scared that he almost jumped onto the chair. 

Kira smiled at the memory. 

Austyn leaned over her, watching her moonlit face. 

Kira was cocooned in his arms, enveloped by his scent.

It was so cosy, she almost closed her eyes and purred. 

Austyn drank in the mesmerising view of her. 

They were so close that he could count her long, thick lashes. 

He savoured their quiet alone time together.. 

Austyn had- apologised to her more times in one night than he’d ever said sorry to all other people in his life, but it wasn’t enough. 

At the restaurant, he knew Liam was goading him into a fight, but he fell for it anyway. 

If it were anything else, he wouldn’t have been so easily provoked.. 

But all sense of self–control flew out the window when it came to Kira. 

He saw it was Liam who made the first move; he knew Kira tried to fight back and push Liam away; he knew it wasn’t her fault. 

But he just couldn’t control himself. 

He was like a bull who saw a red cape. 

The only thought left in his mind was to lash out. 

As a result, he’d hurt Kira, physically and emotionally. 

Austyn sighed quietly. 

Kira shouldn’t have forgiven him so readily. 

She was too soft–hearted. 

It made it easy for others to take advantage of her, to exploit her kindness. 

Austyn loved her for it and hated himself for being one of the exploiters.

She was almost a decade younger than him. 

Her face was full of the collagen of youth. 

She was resting her head on the pillow, eyes half–closed, arms by her side. 

Her body language was open and trusting. 

Austyn asked himself, why her? 

Why did he fall in love with Kira Hewitt? 

It would be an exaggeration to say he could have any woman in the world, but at least in the 

city of Stamford, population 26 million, he could have his pick 

Women younger than Kira, prettier, cuter, sexier. 

Women more obedient than Kira, more intelligent, more sensible. 

But none of them was Kira Hewitt. 

Kira’s eyelids drooped. 

She almost fell asleep, but felt herself being watched. 

Austyn’s gaze was so intense that it was almost like a tangible beam of laser light, impossible 

to ignore. 

She stole a glance at him; he caught it. 

Kira’s heart started thumping. 

The room was so quiet that she was afraid he might hear her heartbeat. 

Her lips went dry. 

Her face began to heat up. 

Kira pushed at his chest. ‘Get…get up.” 

Austyn grabbed her slim fingers, tracing circles on the back of her hand. 

He kept up his ravenous gaze. 

‘What’s…what’s wrong with you?” 

Kira swallowed. 

Her thighs were still sore. 

She hoped the man was not serious about going for Round Three. 

“You don’t know what’s wrong with me?‘ His chest vibrated. 

Kira shook her head. 

How could she know what he was thinking?
