defenceless girl in a deserted can I?”
Liam smirked. ‘I helped you into bed. But I didn’t expect you would be so…forward. The moment I laid you down, you rolled into my arms, grabbed my waist and refused to let go. I couldn’t pry you off. I am but a man. With such a beautiful girl throwing herself at me, how can I resist? So…”
He winked at her.
Kira’s face went as pale as the sheet underneath her.
She heard every word, but she couldn’t believe it. How could she throw herself at Liam?
Leave Austyn And Be With Me
Leave Austyn And Be With Me
Kira hung her head.
Her eyes came to rest on a light blue cotton blouse–her blouse.
She was wearing her clothes!
Kira touched her legs and felt the familiar denim fabric of her jeans.
She breathed out.
Then her head snapped up.
She was red in the face, with anger, not shame.
“That wasn’t funny!‘
‘Aw, I was hoping you wouldn’t find out till much later.‘ He sounded disappointed.
The man was such a bastard!
Kira flung the quilt aside and clambered out of bed.
She ran a hand over her body.
Every part of her felt normal and…unviolated.
She was still seething.
How could the man be so wicked?
She scanned the room, looking for the door.
She did not want to spend another minute in the same room as Liam Cane.
Liam sprang out of bed and blocked her path.
Kira’s hands flew to her face, but stopped halfway when she glimpsed he was wearing his pants.
‘Hey, running away so soon after you slept with me? That’s going to hurt a man’s feelings.”
Kira rolled her eyes.
She stepped back, keeping her distance.
‘Mr Cane, I could sue you for kidnapping. You brought me here against my will.”
‘How could it be against your will? You were unconscious. It was not like I could ask for your opinion.”
“Tell that to the judge.”

Liam paused, then he burst out laughing. ‘You’re so cute.‘
‘And you’re so evil,‘ Kira retorted.
‘All jokes aside. It’s getting late. You can see the moon from the window. It’s not safe for you to be out on the street, alone in the dark. Stay here, will you?
‘I will NOT!!
Liam crossed his arms. ‘Is this the way you treat someone who helped you in the past? More than once, I might add.”
Kira couldn’t answer.
The charming smile returned to his face.
Liam approached slowly.
‘Come on. Don’t pretend you don’t know what this is about. I’ve asked you out more than once. I’ve confessed my feelings to you more than once. How much clearer can I make myself?
Do you need me to write it down?
Kira was at a loss for words.
She’d already turned him down.
Why would he bring it up again?
Liam raked his hair with one hand and struck a pose like a male model.
‘What’s the matter? You don’t like the way I look? The way I dress?”
Kira shook her head, taking another step back.
“Then what?‘ Liam advanced on her. ‘What’s wrong with me then?‘
When Kira didn’t speak, he continued, ‘I can give you everything Austyn gives you. Leave him. Be with me. I’ll give you whatever you want.‘
He was almost cooing now, his voice laced with seduction.
‘I have never loved a woman before. You’re the first.‘
Kira looked up.
Sensing he was making progress, Liam flashed her an adoring smile.
He placed a hand above his heart as if ready to testify to the truth of his statement.
‘I even dream of you at night. Every day spent without you by my side is a day of emptiness and heartache.”
‘You love me?‘ Kira whispered.
Liam nodded earnestly. ‘I love you to the depth, breadth and height my soul can reach. I love you to the level of every day’s most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love you freely, as men strive for right. I love you with the breath, smiles, tears of all my life.‘
Liam smiled confidently.
No woman could resist it when he turned on the charm.
He was a patient hunter, luring his prey into the trap slowly, carefully, tenderly..
By the time they realised they were ensnared, it was too late for an escape.
He’d used the technique on Kayleigh, and it worked like magic.
Kira was younger, more naïve.
She would fall for him just as easily.
So Liam fastened his passionate gaze on Kira, expressing the rest of his unsaid romantic confession with his eyes.
Kira examined the man’s face..
She had to admit, albeit just to herself, that Liam Cane was a very attractive man.
Suave, smooth–tongued, with a seductive voice, and a body that was sexy as hell.
It was easy to see women swooning at his feet, a prisoner to his charm.
Liam smiled at her when he noticed Kira running her eyes over his face.
‘Did you put the same moves on Deborah?‘ she asked in a passionless voice.
His smile froze.
‘How’d you know about Deborah?‘
‘I hear things.‘
‘From whom?‘
“The night has ears.”
‘From Austyn, then.‘ Liam sneered. ‘I didn’t know he was such a big mouth.‘
Liam had miscalculated.
He underestimated Kira’s ability to withstand his charm offensive.
Nor did he expect Austyn to be so open as to share his darkest secret with his wife.
Kira shrugged. ‘We are husband and wife. There are no secrets between us.”
Liam wasn’t smiling anymore.
The seductive voice was replaced with a sarcastic one.
“You can drop the act. Austyn loved and will continue to love Deborah. You are nothing to him.‘
Kira did her best not to flinch.
His vicious words had found their mark, but she wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction.
Instead, she smiled broadly. ‘Be that as it may, I’m the one who shares a bed with him. I’m the one who lives under the same roof as him. Who are you, an outsider, to judge us?”
Sure, Austyn didn’t love her.
He carried Deborah’s photo with him all the time.
But Kira would not stomach an insult from Liam
Liam covered the distance between them in one stride and pulled her into his arms.
“I can give you what he can’t. I can give you love. All you have to do is say yes.
Kira pushed him away.
“You approached me with an ulterior motive. I’m beginning to suspect you might have staged our first encounter. Do you think I can love a deceitful man like you?”
‘I admit, I did approach you with something else in mind. But that was before I got to know. you. Once I did, I couldn’t help but fall for you. I’m serious, Kira. I love you.‘

A Plagiarised Love Poem
Instead of feeling touched, all Kira felt was disgust.
Just because he might have turned over a new leaf–a claim Kira strongly doubted, she had to forgive and forget?
And he was expecting more than just forgiveness.
He
e wanted her to reciprocate his feelings.
Liam’s behaviour gave Kira a new understanding of the word ‘shameless.”
‘You asked me out several times despite my repeated rejection,‘ Kira said coldly, knowing full well I’m Austyn’s wife. You flirted with me brazenly. In confessing your love for me, you’re trying to wreck my marriage and make me an adulteress. Is this what you call love?”
Kira drew herself up to her full height.
‘You said you’re serious about your feelings for me. You said you’d changed. But even your confession of love is plagiarised. Do you think I didn’t recognise the poem from Elizabeth Browning?”
Kira matched his frosty look with one of her own.
‘What on earth do you want from me? You want me to fall for you so you can take revenge on Austyn? Is that it? Once I’m head over heels in love with you, you’ll parade that fact in front of him, just like you did with Deborah?”
Liam pressed his lips into a thin line.
He glowered at her.
Kira held his gaze.
‘Do you think I’m like Deborah? Easily seduced by your false charm into betraying Austyn?”
Liam clenched his fists.
Anger flitted across his face, but he held it in.
‘I’m sorry to tell you, your plan failed. I won’t fall for your trap, and I won’t betray Austyn.
Thinking back, Kira realised how foolish she had been.
“That day in the restaurant, you kissed me on purpose, didn’t you? You knew Austyn was nearby, watching us. You kissed me just to provoke him.”
Austyn was right to call her ‘silly girl.‘
She had been more than silly; she had been blind.
Flagmited Love Poem:
‘Are you done?‘ Liam said flatly.
The mask was off now.
The good–humoured, ever–smiling Liam was gone.
His face was granite.
‘No, I’m not done,‘ Kira shot back. ‘I’m just a pawn in your despicable game against Austyn. You are using me. All those sweet words you said just now were nothing but bait. Once I bite, you’ll reel me in like a fish. I don’t find them sweet at all. Au contraire, they disgust me. YOU disgust me.‘
Kira delivered her closing remarks in a steady voice. ‘So, give it up. I’m never going to fall for you or your trap. And I’m never going to betray Austyn for you. He is my husband. I have a duty to him. Do you understand?”
She could not cheat on Austyn, not while they were married.
It was just not in her nature.
Dad taught her to be an honest person.
Just because Austyn might be a cheater didn’t mean she should stoop to his level.
Two wrongs don’t make a right, as Dad used to say.
She was not Deborah Connelly.
She was Kira Hewitt.
Liam bore the diatribe with a stony face.
When Kira finally stopped, tired and thirsty, he gave a mirthless chuckle.
