The event was attended by some of the richest and most powerful men in Stamford. 

Women, and sometimes men, who wanted to take a shortcut in life would crash the party and try their luck here. 

Kira nodded in awe. 

Austyn was so smart that sometimes it was scary. 

When she faced off against Georgina and her crony, all Kira could think about was how to protect herself and maybe take a swipe at her half–sister. 

She had felt particularly proud of herself when she came up with the idea of turning the two women against each other, even though it was a move borrowed from Austyn. 

“You did well,‘ Austyn said with a smile in his voice. 

He saw what she did, and he knew where she’d gotten the idea from. 

‘I’m impressed.‘ 

‘Really?‘ Kira’s eyes lit

‘Really.‘ He played with the tiny silver bell on her waist chain. 

It made a pleasant little jingle. 

Kira looked away to hide her blush. 

His praise, given so rarely, made her pleased as Punch. 

Austyn straightened up when he felt his erection had gone down. ‘Come on.‘ 

He led her out of the room and down a carpeted hallway. 

The second floor was smaller and much quieter than downstairs. 

Kira passed by just a handful of women milling around. 

They nodded at her and Austyn politely but didn’t approach. 

Austyn noticed Kira’s curious glance at the rooms with closed doors. ‘Downstairs is for pleasure. This level is for business.” 

Kira recalled the ushers standing behind a velvet rope at the staircase landing. 

It seemed that not everyone could come up here. 

Austyn confirmed her suspicion. “This floor is restricted access.” 

He stopped in front of an open glass door. ‘I’m going to meet with some clients. You can stay

in the lounge. Order food and drinks if you like. No one’s going to disturb you here.‘ 

‘Okay.‘ Ki 

took in the plush layout, her eyes landing on a massage chair. 

‘Do you want my jacket?‘ Austyn touched the front of her dress. 

It had dried and the fabric was turning a little stiff. 

Kira swatted his hand away. ‘No.‘ 

‘Are you sure?‘ 

‘Yes, I’m sure.‘ 

‘Call the waiter if you need anything.” 

Austyn turned around and was about to leave. 

“Wait.‘ 

“What’s the matter? You don’t want to see me go?” 

Kira rolled her eyes. 

She pointed to his lips. ‘You should probably get that cleaned up before you meet your clients.” 

Austyn’s lips were stained pinkish by her lip gloss. 

He ran a finger over his lips and smiled. ‘I’ll find a men’s room.” 

He saw her go into the lounge before leaving. 

Kira headed straight for the massage chair facing the balcony. 

It had an air ioniser, calf and knee massage rollers and an automatic footrest extension. 

Kira sank into the chair, sighing contentedly. 

The adrenalin rush from her confrontation with Georgina had subsided. 

Kira enjoyed the view of the starry night sky for a while. 

Her eyelids started drooping. 

No one else was in the lounge, so Kira closed her eyes and let herself fall into a food coma. 

She was woken up by a warm touch on her lips. 

Thinking it was Austyn, Kira just mumbled, ‘Stop it…” 

Her eyes were still closed. 

The touch disappeared, replaced by a pair of lips. 

The kiss was gentle at first, but then it grew aggressive.

Kira fut her brows. 

Those lips… 

They didn’t feel like Austyn’s.
