Kira smoothed out her dresL 

“Austyn’s going to be so pissed when he finds out I ruined his limited edition dress,‘ she thought, making a wry face. 

She wished she could see him right now, she missed him so much 

“I can’t just leave my life in someone else’s hands,‘ she said. ‘While our friends do their part to save us, I have to do mine.‘ 

Some people said there were certain fates worse than death. 

Kira thought that was just hogwash 

Nothing best death; death was the worst 

What she went through just now was humiliating and traumatising, but it got her what she wanted–a shot at survival.

‘As long as there’s a tiny sliver of hope, I won’t give up, Kira said. 

Gwen stared at Kira as if she was seeing her for the first time 

She no longer thought they looked alike. 

Any other woman would have broken down by now, but Kira Hewin was made of stemmer stuff. 

Kira tensed when the door opened again.. 

The team of heavily armed men came back, but Sean Santoro was not among them. 

Kira and Gwen huddled together for warmth. 

‘I don’t like the look of these men,‘ Kira whispered to Gwen. They seem so well–prepared. Your friend might be walking into a trap? 

Kira spotted tattoos on the arms of several men. 

One wore an eyepatch. 

Three had facial scars like Santoro, 

They looked like extras on the set of ‘Die Hard! 

Gwen concurred. 

She 

now regretted activating the tracker. 

What if Gideon came unprepared? 

Sean strolled into the warehouse. 

He kicked the iron cage. “Ladies, the show’s about to start. You have the best seats in the house” 

Kira wished the man’s smug looking face would melt. ‘What the hell do you want?” 

Sean bent down, running his eyes over Kira’s ruined dress. ‘It’s such a pity, I don’t have the time to enjoy you today. Don’t worry, though. Your husband’s going to die here tonight. I can take you off his hands—that is, if you survive tonight! 

Kira tried to hide the tremor in her voice, ‘What are you going to do to Austyn?‘ 

“Nothing much. I just want his life‘ Sean smirked. ‘He’s on his way over. 

“You bastard!” Kira wanted to claw the man’s eyes out. ‘Don’t you dare touch him!” 

“Oh, I’m not going to touch him.” Sean straightened up. I’m just going to kill him.” 

Kira’s hands shook. “You’ll be disappointed. He’s not coming ” 

“And you know that how? Sean glanced at her askance 

“You kidnapped me to lure him out, right?” Kira licked her chapped lips. “That’s not going to work. He doesn’t care that much about me. He’s not coming here. 

Sean scored. “Do you think I’m stupid? You’re his wille. Would he marry you if he doesn’t care about you? 

“That’s not why he married me.‘ Kira improvised. ‘It’s just a smokescreen. He did it to protect the woman he truly loves.” 

“Really? And who is that woman?“” 

Kira faltered. “She’s_she’s not in Stamford” 

Sean sneered. “Doesn’t matter now. If Austyn doesn’t show his face in the next–be checked his watch–ninety minutes, you’ll be dead.” 

He jurted his chin towards Gwen. “And so will your twin‘ 

Kira glowered at him.

*So, for both of your sakes, you’d better pray Austyn doesn’t get stuck in traffle, Sean flicked a speck of dust from his sleeve. ‘I don’t want to have gone through all this trouble for nothing.” 

“Guys!” he bellowed to the mercenaries. “Time to get in position! 

He said to Ronald, ‘Get the bombs ready.‘ 

“Yes, Boss,” 

Kira’s heart beat so fast that it threatened to jump out of her throat. 

There were at least twenty man, armed with all kinds of guns and rifles and weapons she couldn’t recognise 

Austyn would be wallding into an ambush. 

‘Please don’t come,‘ she said weakly. 

She didn’t want Austyn to come. 

She missed him like crazy right now, but she’d never want to see him get hurt or worse. 

It was too dangerous. 

The armed men dispersed quickly. 

Half of them left the warehouse and the other half took up concealed positions on the second flour inside, hiding behind overturned crates and concrete pillars 

Kira had lost track of time. 

It must be past midnight now 

Sean’s phone started ringing 

His eyebrows shot up when he saw the caller ID.
