The appointed hour had come and gone.
Astyn didn’t show
Sean was growing impatient.
He paced in the warehouse.
Ronald said, ‘Boss, don’t worry. He’ll come. He has to. We have his wife!
Then he added, ‘Don’t forget we still have a trump card.
You lled My Bother
You Killed My Brother!
Sean paused, then he smiled. “Right, I forgot about that. But I’d rather we succeed on our first try.‘
He knew full well what kind of person Austyn McCarthy was
It took him almost a decade to get to where he was now.
If he couldn’t idil Austyn tonight, he was never going to get another opportunity like this again.
Sean whirled around when he heard the rusty door creak.
Crisp night air rushed in, followed by a lone figure.
The moonlight was on his back, casting a shadow over his face
But Sean recognised him immediately.
He laughed.
Finally!
Kira’s nails dug into her thighs when she saw the man.
She burst into tears.
Austyn was here.
Became
She choked back a sob and yelled, ‘Austyn Rum! It’s a trap!!
He had to have beard her on the phone.
He knew it was a trap.
Why did he choose to come?
Austyn pulled up short at the sight of Kira in the iron cage.
Her dress was torn.
Her makeup was sinudged.
Her hair was a mess.
There was another woman in the cage, with her head lowered.
He forced himself to look away.
He glared at Sean. ‘Let her go. This is between us. She has nothing to do with it.‘
‘Search him,” Sean ordered.
Ronald stepped forward and gave Austyn a pat–down. ‘He’s manmed, Boss.”
‘Go check outside.”
‘Yes, Boss!
Sean crossed his arms and looked at Austyn up and down.
He clicked his tongue. “You’re really not afraid to die.”
‘I said, let her go.”
‘Don’t take that tone with me!‘ Sean growled. ‘Your life is in my hands now. You don’t get to make any demands.”
Austyn’s hand moved to his back.
He whipped out a Sig Sauer P320 XCompact and aimed it at Sean.
“Fuck‘ Sean cursed his stupid assistant.
The gun was strapped to the small of Austyn’s back using flesh–coloured tape.
It had a 9mm barret; Ronald had missed it.
Sean calmed down quickly. ‘Do you think you can rescue her with just one tiny toy gun??
He pointed to the space behind him. See the second floor? Twelve guns were trained on you the moment you walked in. I just need to give the word, you’ll be shot to pieces,‘
Austyn paused
Herwirled the compact gun around his fingers. “Seems Le I’ve made a fool of myself.”
You Killed My Brother
He shrugged and tossed the Sig Sauer aside
Sean frowned.
He couldn’t figure out what the man was doing.
McCarthy gave up too easily.
“Now that you have me completely in your power, you don’t need the women. Let them go. Let’s you and I settle this like real men.‘
Austyn stuck his hands in his pants pockets and strolled towards Sean.
He forced himself to keep his eyes front and not look at Kira in the cage.
He was afraid he might lose control if he saw her tears again.
Sean snarled. ‘Don’t come any closer!!
‘Fine. Austyn stopped.
He was now face to face with Sean
They were less than two metres apart.
“Well, now that I’m here, can you finally tell me who the hell you are?!
Sean clenched his jaw.
The scar on his face grew more prominent.
‘You don’t know who I am?
Austyn shot him a dismissive glance.
He was about half a head taller than Sean.
Austyn gave Sean a once–over like he was sizing up a hog about to be butchered.
“I don’t recall meeting someone as ugly as you.‘
“Fuck you!”
The vein on Sean’s forehead popped.
He was red in the face.
“Ten years ago, you and your men tracked down a group of drug dealers in West Twangan and killed dozens of people. My brother was one of them.”
Togen was his only brother!
Austyn cast his mind back
Ten years ago, he was in the army.
He was recruited into a special task force in collaboration with the drug enforcement agencies of five border cities.
They went into the lion’s den and adopted a policy that was more or less scorched earth.”
Drug manufacturers and dealers were apprehended and, if they resisted, shot on sight.
Young and eager for his first Meritorious Service Medal, Austyn had racked up one hell of a kill count.
