“Oh, that was nothing,” Austyn smirked. Just a couple of superficial wounds. But you, you were shot through the chest. Most people would be six feet under by now,! 

‘I got lucky.” Gideon gritted his teeth. 

‘That you did. What did the doctors say?‘ 

‘The usual. No strenuous activity. Plenty of fluids. Blah blah, I’ll be back on my feet in no time.

Kira turned her head back and forth as the two men chatted. 

It was a civil, almost amicable, chat. 

Which amazed her. 

She was half expecting them to start trading insults 

But the two of them sounded like they were familiar with each other. 

‘Speaking of fluids… Gideon loolood at Kira. I really enjoyed your chicken soup yesterday. It was out of this world” 

His eyes came to rest on her empty hands 

Kira felt his gaze and his silent question. 

She shuffled her feet, feeling a tad guilty. 

She had not had the time to cook today. 

She didn’t even bring the obligatory fruit basket, 

“It’s my fault.” Austyn brol the awkward silence. ‘We went to bed late last night and overslept this morning, after you know. She did tell me she needed to bring some soup today, but we were in a rush and completely forgot” 

Gideon gripped the sheets under him. 

The message in Austyn’s words was loud and clear. 

He was showing off 

And he was warning Gideon 

-Kira was now his wife. 

Gideon shouldn’t get any ideas. 

A smile slowly spread across Gideon’s face. 

He shrugged nonchalantly. “That’s too bad.” 

Austyn returned the smile. 

He rifled Kira’s hair. “Don’t worry. If you like the chicken soup so much, I’ll ask her to bring you some tomorrow.” 

Kira dodged his hand. 

She wanted to move away but his arm was fastened around her waist, 

She detected the weird vibe between the two men. 

They were talking about soup, but not just soup. 

What the hell was going on here? 

Last night, Austyn stomped off after she took a call from Gideon 

But he was acting so chummy with Gideon now, it confused her. 

And Gideon was acting strange, too. 

Austyn said, “Your assistant said you haven’t had lunch yet. Can you walk? The hospital cafeteria is just downstairs. Shall we grab a bite to eat? 

Kira stared at Austyn 

They had brunch 

Than two hours ago. 

He couldn’t possibly be hungry again so soon. 

Kira tugged at his sleeve. 

Austyn didn’t respond. 

Kira pinched his arm, a silent message for him to behave himself. 

If Austyn felt any pain, he hid it well 

He pulled Kira into his arms and said in a breezy voice, ‘Dear, I didn’t eat much at lunch. Do you want to come with me to the cafe?! Kira was at a loss for words. 

Austyn was acting so out of character right now, it was surreal. 

“Dear?” Austyn pinched her cheek lightly. “What do you think?‘ 

Kira picked up the slight change in his tone in that last word. 

It was a warning. 

She said immediately, “Sure, okay, yeah, whatever you want.” 

Her answer pleased him. 

Austyn rewarded her with a bright smile. ‘Good girl.” 

Then he leaned in and planted a kiss on her forehead, in full view of Gideon and Martin. 

Kira was so nonplussed by his sudden display of affection that she didn’t know how to react. She just stood there in a daze. 

A lood cracking sound jolted her back to the present. 

She looked up in shock. 

Gideon had a water glass in his hand, 

Well, he had two–thirds of a water glass in his hand. 

The rest of it lay on the sheets in shards. 

Blood dripped from his palm, staining the shards in bright red. 

‘Gideon!‘ Kira rushed to his side.

in ran out of the room in search of a nurse. 

There was a long gash in Gideon’s hand. 

It almost cut across his entire palan. 

Blond was still oozing out 

Kina looked around anxiously. 

She grabbed a towel from the bedside table and pressed it down on the wound, hope it seemaki

He leaned forward so Kira’s face and his were just inches apart. 

Kira didn’t notice. 

“I’m fine.” 

“You’re not fine! You’re bleeding!‘ Kira looked away. 

She couldn’t stand the sight of blood. 

‘Are you worried about me?” 

‘Of course! How can you be so clumsy?” 

He was still recovering from a gunshot wound. 

A deep cut like this was going to require stitches. 

Gideon stared at the side of her face, smiling 

Austyn stood, fuming silently. 

Martin returned with a nurse in tow. 

She cleaned the wound and dressed it. 

Kira stepped aside, watching with a worried look on her face. She breathed a sigh of relief when the bleeding finally stopped.
