Was that why she agreed to wear them despite complaining about the chafing?
She had looked so excited, her eyes shining with anticipation.
She’d suggested the mall, the park, even an ice skating rink
She had really, really wanted to go on a date with him.
But what about him?
When she was getting herself all prettied up, all he thought of was the look on Gideon’s face when he saw Kira.
Austyn had picked out the little black dress because its low collar would put the hickeys on her clavicles on full display.
The plan was hatched when be heard Gideon’s call to Kira during dinner last night.
Kira was right; he had used her.
He was hoping to goad Gideon into losing his temper, into throwing the first punch.
Then Kira, who always sided with the victim, would turn against Gideon.
But Gideon didn’t rise to the bait.
Not at first.
Austyn’s plan achieved nothing except getting Kira mad at him.
He got back into the Hummer and started the engine.
The car left the hospital compound,
He saw Kira walking ahead.
She was barefoot and lurching
People were whispering and pointing, but she paid them no heed.
Anger rose in Austyn’s chest as he looked on.
He stopped the car and jumped out
Kira was muttering under her breath, cursing the arrogant, selfish man who turned his back on her.
‘Bastard!!
her fault, yet he was the one to stomp
Kira almost twisted her ankle when she stepped on another pebble
She grimaced in pain.
She heard giggling
A kid was pointing at her and laughing
He must
think she was a mental patient who escaped from the hospital,
Kira made a face at the boy
She kept on walking, having no idea where she was going
She squealed when she suddenly found herself airborne.
She grabbed the person’s anos instinctively.
When she looked up, she saw A
What was he doing here?
Didn’t he leave?
Why did he come back?
Austyn’s face.
Kira forgot to scream and just stared at him.
She could see his perfect jawline and part of a five o’clock shadow.
When he set her down on a bench, she was still staring
Austyn’s broad back blocked out the blazing sun.
Kira looked up.
She couldn’t see the look on his face as the sun was coming from behind him.
His head was shrouded in a golden halo..
Kira squinted. ‘Why did you come back?”
Austyn pursed his lips.
He examined her feet. ‘Sit still!
Then he turned around and headed for the car.
Kira was left sitting on the bench in confusion.
Why was he walking off again?
But before she had time to get worked up again, Austyn returned.
He was carrying the pair of Manolo Blahniks.
He stopped in front of Kira, bent down, held her ankle, and helped her put on the shoes.
Kira was so stunned that she forgot to move.
Pedestrians stopped and gawked.
The tall and handsome man was getting down on one knee in front of the beautiful but dishevelled woman.
It was a scene straight out of a rom–com.
