“Kira!‘
Austyn was baffled.
She had seemed so excited a minute ago
Now she was on a strike?
‘Don’t yell at me!‘ Kira glared at him. ‘I’m not leaving!”
Austyn felt the familiar throbbing in his forehead.
He massaged his temples. ‘I wasn’t yelling ”
“Yes you were! And no, I’m not leaving.”
“Can you at least tell me why?!
He’d rather not waste time playing the guessing game.
It was more efficient if she just told him what she was thinking
Kira crossed her arms. ‘I just don’t want to walk. My feet hurt.”
The vein in Austyn’s forehead twitched. ‘You are wearing flats. How can your feet still hurt?”
Kira rolled her eyes and turned her face away.
She didn’t want to look at him right now.
Was he being deliberately dense?
Wasn’t he supposed to be whip–smart?
He ran a billion–dollar company with thousands of employees.
Wasn’t he supposed to be good at reading people?
Why was it so hard for him to see why she didn’t want to leave?
She wanted to eat ice cream!
Kira stuck out her lower lip, pouting
Let’s see how long it took the super–intelligent president to figure out why his date was mad.
There was another young couple at the next table.
The boy was holding up a spoon and feeding his girlfriend ice cream.
The girl was all sweet smiles and gentle cooing voices.
‘Honey, I want to try the strawberry one.
‘Sure, babe, whatever you want. Let’s finish the scoop of mint chocolate, then I’ll go get you the strawberry. They have salted caramel as well. Do you want to try it?”
‘But it’s too many calories. I don’t want to get f
[lat.!
Oh babe, your figure’s perfect. You can never get fat in my eyes.
‘Oh honey…
Then a loud smooch.
Kira rolled her eyes,
Too much PDM
But then, wasn’t this what couples on a date were supposed to do?
She could never imagine Austyn saying anything like that to her, or using that lovey–dovey voice.
Compared to the lovebirds, she and Austyn didn’t look like a couple at all.
The owner of the ice cream parlour, a man in his fifties, beckoned at Austyn.
Austyn glanced at him. “What?‘
The man pointed to Kira. ‘Is she your niece?”
“What?” Austyn scowled. ‘Am I that old?”
‘Oh ‘The owner was stunned. “That means…‘
“That means she’s my wife!
“Oh.’The man grimaced, feeling sheepish ‘Sorry, my bad. I thought since she looks so young, whereas you… Anyway, my mistake.”
Austyn was more than a little miffed.
Sure, Kira looked young, like the college girl she was
But no way was he old enough to be mistaken for her uncle!
He was right not to buy anything here; ice cream made by a man with such poor judgement must be no good.
Luckily, the owner didn’t know what Austyn was thinking.
If he did, he would’ve withdrawn his offer of help.
“The young lady…I mean, your wife is angry with you. Don’t you think you should do something about it?”
‘I know she’s mad.”
