In the living room, Glana glared at the other intruder. “What are you doing here?” 

Kai cleared his throat, offering a sheepish smile. ‘Miss Mills, we’ve met before. I drove you home from The Analogue last time, remember? I’m Mr McCarthy’s assistant. My name is –‘ 

“I didn’t ask who you are. Glana cut him off. ‘Of course I remember you. I asked what you’re doing here in my house!! 

“Uh, Boss is here to pick up Young Madam, so…! 

‘Does he always barge into other people’s houses to pick up his wife?” Giana pointed at her bedro room! This is trespassing! 

“But Young Madam ran away. You helped her. Which is aiding and abetting.”

‘I’m sorry for the way we came, but it couldn’t be helped,‘ Kal said. ‘Boss is just worried about her.“‘ 

Giana headed for her bedroom.

‘I’ll call a doctor over. Austyn reached for his phone. 

‘Don’t. I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt now.” 

Kira moved sideways out of his embrace. 

‘So, back to the question.‘ Austyn fastened his gaze on her face. “Why did you run?” 

Kira looked away. “I wasn’t running. I was coming back to the room to get my coat. It’s chilly.” 

“You know that’s not what I meant. I asked you, why did you run from the hospital?”

Austyn mirrored her move. 

He was still standing right in front of her, close enough for her to feel the heat emanating from his body. ‘The doctor told me it was just a bruise. I didn’t need to stay at the hospital. I could go wherever I wanted.” 

“Why didn’t you tell me?” 

‘Tell you what?” Kira sneered. ‘Would an inmate tell the jailer about her plan to break out? I’m not that stupid.” 

Austyn lifted her chin with a finger and stared straight into her eyes. “You think I was keeping you a prisoner?” 

Kira swatted his hand away. 

“You have food served to you, a team of doctors and nurses at your beck and call, guards and an assistant for you to boss around. You call this imprisonment? Kira Hewitt, do you even know what a real prison looks like?” 

His cold voice matched the frigid look on his face. 

Kira raised her head, glaring at him defiantly. “I’m not a criminal. I don’t need to know what a real prison looks like. All I know is when you hold someone against their will, it’s imprisonment!! 

Her clothes and bag were taken from her. 

No visitors were allowed in her room. 

She had to steal her phone back from Kai’s briefcase to call Giana. 

If she didn’t, who knew how much longer she would remain locked up?

‘You call that tine?” Glana wanted to help her friend, but she didn’t know where to start
