‘I thought he’d left.” 

“Huh? But I didn’t see him go out.‘ Elsie wiped her hands on her apron. ‘But I remember hearing the sound of engine last night. Maybe he left at night?” 

Elsie checked the bedroom and the study upstairs. 

Both rooms were empty. 

Kira sat at the breakfast table, holding her phone in hand. 

When she called Paul to apologise for her absence from the office for the past two days, the manager had sounded extremely understanding 

She didn’t know what Kai told the manager, but Paul seemed to be under the impression that Kira had come down with a sudden bout of a mysterious illness that was keeping her brdbound. 

Paul even extended her leave by another week. 

Kira hung up the phone, relieved.
