‘Over here!’ Damian waved at him from the woods on the left side of the road. 

He saw Kira crouching on the floor, her back against a tree. 

Her head was lowered. 

She was drenched from head to toe. 

The coat draped over her shoulders didn’t seem to be of much help. 

She didn’t react to the sound of footsteps. 

A sudden pain stabbed through Austyn’s heart at the sight of her pitiful state. 

“She refuses to let me touch her,‘ Damian said, relieved, ‘Won’t talk. Won’t stand up. I couldn’t get her to the Jeep.” Austyn nodded. 

He bent down in front of her. ‘Kira‘ 

His soft voice was almost drowned out by the storm 

Kira’s face was buried in her knees 

She didn’t seem to have heard him 

Austyn reached out a hand.

Kira stood in the pitch–black toyer and watched the taillights of the Hummer.

A flash of lightning pierced the darkness, followed by a deafening peal of thunder. 

Thick rain clouds gathered in the sky, signalling an impending storm. 

Kira froze. 

She shivered in the cold. 

Another lightning slashed across the sky, followed by another loud boom. 

The woods were lit up like it was daytime. 

Kira saw two figures in front of her. 

She was standing downwind. 

She smelled the stink of alcohol. 

The figures saw her as well. 

One of the men elbowed the other. “Check this out.‘ 

“Ooh, she’s hot.” 

“A hooker?” 

‘Could be! 

‘We struck out at the club tonight. Maybe this is fate’s way to compensate us,” 

‘Let’s go talk to her.” 

The two men approached. 

‘Hey, pretty lady, what are you doing out here alone?”

The men shared a laugh and advanced on her. 

Kira stepped back. 

She wore a thin cotton t–shirt and a pair of jeans.
