Austyn left the hospital.
He was still sick
He couldn’t have gone to the office, could he?
Was he that much of a workaholic?
Kira frowned.
“Have you called him?‘ Elsie asked.
Kira slapped a palm to her forehead. ‘I forgot.”
She had been on her feet for almost forty hours.
She was running on fumes.
‘So stupid.‘ She reached for her phone. ‘I could’ve just called.‘
She listened to the monotonous ringtone till the call was cut off.
She tried again.
Same result.
“Why isn’t he picking up?”
So Widt She’s Maried?
Kira pulled a face.
Was the man giving her the silent treatment again?
Kira called Kai.
The assistant was back at the company.
Austyn wasn’t there and Kai had no idea where he could have gone..
Austyn stared at the caller ID onscreen and let the call go to voicemail.
He wasn’t in the mood to answer anyone’s calls right now, including Kira’s.
Or, maybe especially Kira’s.
His mind was whirling.
The woman lying in a room less than ten feet away was supposed to be dead.
Dead and buried.
But she was alive.
She had a pulse.
Her skin
was warm.
She was breathing.
Deborah was alive.
The bombshell had struck without warning, and Austyn was still reeling.
He couldn’t get his mind or nerves to calm down
The ashtray in the living room was overflowing with cigarette butts.
Austyn chain–smoked.
The nicotine, instead of clearing his head like it used to do, only muddled it further.
It was like someone had stuffed a ball of cotton into his brain, messing up all logical thought.
The smoke was getting into his lungs and making it difficult to breathe.
Austyn kept on smoking. The bedroom door opened.
He buried Her Adhes
He Burled Her Ashes
