It had everything a swanky private club was supposed to have: a rooftop tennis court, an infinity pool, a health spa, a salon, a library, and two fine dining restaurants. 

But no orchids. 

Austyn brought Kira into a private room decked out in 18th–century oil paintings and wall–to wall carpets. 

She spotted a woman seated next to Luca. 

It was the woman she saw at Stamford General a while back. 

At that time, Kira had mistakenly thought she was coming on to Austyn. 

The woman stood up and stretched out a hand. “We haven’t been properly introduced. Hi, I’m Isabel, Luca’s wife.‘ 

Isabel O’Neill was tall and beautiful and had a confident air about her. 

And she was not the woman Kira saw last night. 

Kira shook Isabel’s hand in a daze. 

She forced out a smile. “H–hello. I’m Kira Hewitt 

Isabel smiled. ‘I know.” 

Kira glanced at Luca, then at Isabel, then back at Luca, feeling awkward.

Kira looked to Austyn for help. 

He sat down on a two–seat sofa and crossed his legs, looking elegant and unconcerned. 

He noticed Kira’s pleading look. 

He smiled, then he turned his head away. 

‘Bastard!‘ Kira said to herself. 

She looked back and locked eyes with Isabel, who was staring at her, curious. 

Kira’s palms were sweaty. 

She wasn’t a blabbermouth, but she had never been good at keeping secrets. 

Besides, this was something so huge, she didn’t think she could keep it in for much longer. 

Kira shot the captain a scornful look. 

Luca O’Neill was handsome and well–dressed, but underneath that suit was a two–timing 

cheater. 

Austyn had been right to call him a hypocrite. 

Dad was right; she should never judge a book by its cover.

When she first met Luca, she had instantly formed a favourable impression of the man. 

He was a police captain, and Kira had always had a thing for men in uniform, like police officers and soldiers. 

She viewed them as heroes in real life. 

But now she knew she was wrong. 

Having a noble job didn’t mean the man had a noble heart. 

He was a despicable adulterer! 

Kira felt bad for Isabel. 

‘Miss Hewitt?‘ Isabel didn’t miss the look of pity on Kira’s face. Why was the girl pitying her?

Kira licked her dry lips. ‘I, uh, I…‘

She trotted over and plonked herself down on the sofa. 

Austyn twirled a whisky glass in hand. ‘Luca, stop staring at my wife. You have your own.” 

‘I wasn’t staring. I just want to know why she’s acting so weird.” 

‘She’s my wife, not a suspect. Park your curiosity elsewhere.” 

Luca threw up both hands. ‘I wasn’t treating her like a suspect.” 

Isabel patted his arm. ‘Austyn’s just protecting his wife. You’re scaring her.” 

‘What’s so scary about me?‘ 

‘Well, you can look pretty intimidating sometimes.‘

‘I do?‘ 

‘But I like it.‘ Isabel held his hand. ‘I think you look incredibly handsome when you get all serious.‘ 

Luca planted a loud kiss on her check. ‘Say more things like that.” 

Isabel leaned against his chest and played with his fingers. ‘You’re smart. You’re handsome. You have a nice body.‘ 

She lowered her voice to a whisper. ‘And you rock my world in bed.” 

Luca tightened his arms around her. 

He’d married the best woman in the world. 

Kira overheard most of their conversation and had to look away. 

Too much PDA. 

It was making her uncomfortable, and indignant 

How could Luca betray a woman who loved him so much? 

Austyn seemed to be used to it. 

He ignored the couple who were getting handsy all over each other. 

‘I saved your bacon just now,‘ he said to Kira. ‘Aren’t you going to thank me?” 

His hot breath made her ear tingle.
