‘Don’t be naïve, Kira,‘ Gideon said. ‘I told you I will only have one woman in my life, and that’s you. I’m not going to let you go, no matter what.‘ 

‘I’m married!‘ Kira eyed the dashboard for anything she could use as a weapon, but she came up empty. 

The car was a rental and the inside had been scrubbed clean. 

‘I was willing to wait for you to leave Austyn. I was willing to forgive you for marrying another man, but I will NOT tolerate you having his baby. Not his, not anybody else’s.‘ 

‘You are insane!‘ 

Gideon’s icy voice and the maniacal gleam in his eyes petrified Kira. 

She had no idea he was so obsessed with her. 

‘Call me whatever you want. Maybe I am crazy. But I’m only crazy about you.‘ Gideon drove one–handed. 

His other hand reached for hers. ‘Don’t worry. It’s not going to hurt. The doctors will give you a couple of pills. It’ll be over before you know it.‘ 

Kira plastered her back against the seat and stayed as far away from him as possible. ‘Don’t touch me!‘ 

‘It’s going to be fine. You’re young and healthy. You can always have another baby.‘ 

His voice turned stone cold. ‘But you can only have it with me.‘ 

‘You’re out of your mind!‘ Kira threw both hands around her stomach. “This is my baby! You have no right! Let me out! Now! Or I’m going to call the police!‘ When the car slowed down at a junction, Kira pounded at the window. ‘Help! Anybody! Help me!‘ 

“The glass is soundproof. They can’t hear you.‘ Gideon wasn’t worried. 

Kira was clutching at straws. 

She made her hand into a fist and hammered the window. 

No way was she going to the hospital with the psycho. 

The baby was hers and Austyn’s. 

She would never allow any harm to come to her unborn child. 

‘Kira.‘ Gideon reached for her hand again. 

‘Get away from me!‘ She whacked him on the arm. 

‘I’m doing this for your own good.‘ 

‘You’re insane!‘ 

‘Just listen. Austyn lied to you. He’s not who you think he is.‘ 

‘What the hell are you talking about?‘ Kira yanked on the door handle but it refused to budge. ‘Don’t try and play your twisted game with me!‘ 

‘I’m not playing any game.‘ 

The light changed. 

The BMW rolled forward. 

‘Your marriage to Austyn is a sham. He’s using you. If you have his baby, you’ll come to regret it one day. I’m just saving you from all the pain and grief in the future.‘ 

‘You’re lying! I’m a fool for ever trusting you!‘ Kira had not given up on beating at the window. 

Maybe it would attract the attention of the traffic police and she would be saved. 

‘Austyn only married you because he wants something from you.‘ 

Kira glared at him. ‘What the hell are you talking about?‘ 

Austyn didn’t even know her before they got married. 

Before the day he showed up in her rathole of an apartment, Kira had never heard of the McCarthy name. 

She was stone broke back then. 

What could Austyn want from her? 

‘Just think about it. Austyn appeared in your life right at the moment when you needed help the most. After your father’s accident, Helen turned her back on you. Your relatives shut the door in your face. Austyn was a complete stranger. Why would he be willing to help you?‘ 

Gideon thought about his conversation with Liam Cane. 

Neither could puzzle out Austyn’s true motive for the marriage, but both agreed that there had to be a reason behind this.
