She came out of the bathroom.

She knelt on the floor next to the bed and watched Liam sleep. 

He had long, thick eyelashes. 

So did Aiden. 

Liam Cane had a beautiful, almost angelic face. 

Which helped him win the trust and heart of many a woman, including Deborah. 

But she knew that hidden underneath that harmless, enchanting façade was a black heart, a man with no conscience. 

Deborah raised the pair of scissors in her hand. 

Her medical training told her how to locate the carotid artery and jugular vein. 

If either was cut, the man would bleed to death within five to ten seconds. 

Deborah was seriously tempted. 

This man gave her the best year of her life, before pushing her into hell for the next seven. 

She hated him with every fibre of her being. 

Revenge would be so easy. 

Just one quick slash across the throat. 

He would be dead before the scissors hit the ground. 

Charles was out. 

No one knew she was here, other than that woman… 

Deborah leaned in. 

She held up the pair of scissors. 

With two quick motions, she cut off two strands of Liam’s hair. 

She cut as close to the scalp as possible to make sure the roots were included. 

After she got what she came for, Deborah got dressed and left the house. 

Aiden was still waiting for her back home. 

She was not going to throw away her life for a scum like Liam Cane.

Kira had taken two naps during the day. 

Now that she was home, she was wide awake even though it was way past bedtime. 

Austyn was in his study–hard at work, no doubt. 

Kira was alone in the bedroom, tossing and turning. 

An hour later, she finally flung the cover aside and got up. 

Austyn looked up when he heard the door being pushed open. 

‘Can’t sleep again?‘ 

Kira nodded sheepishly. 

‘Come here.‘ Austyn set down the pen in his hand. 

Kira circled the desk and sat down on his lap. 

She inhaled the familiar scent of his shampoo. 

‘I’ve made up my mind,‘ she declared. 

‘Hmm?‘ Austyn was playing with a strand of her long hair. 

‘I’ve decided to take your advice and stay home for the semester.‘ 

‘It wasn’t advice,‘ he corrected her. ‘It was an order.‘ 

She made a face at him. ‘Whatever. Anyway, I thought I can self–study at home and go back to school after I give birth.‘ 

‘Really?‘ He lifted her chin with a finger. 

‘Really.‘ She nodded. 

Austyn moved in to kiss her but caught himself. 

He sighed audibly. 

‘Get up.‘ He gently shoved her away. 

‘What’s wrong?‘ Kira was puzzled. 

He seemed mad all of a sudden.

Austyn picked up a calendar on the desk and drew a big cross on today’s date. ‘Fifty–four more days to go. 

His voice was filled with frustration. 

‘Fifty–four days to what?‘ 

“To the end of your first trimester.‘ Austyn eyed her flat belly. 

He had to refrain from kissing her, because he wasn’t sure he could stop once he started. 

Kira caught his look of lust and figured out what he was thinking. 

She burst out laughing. 

‘You laugh now.‘ Austyn gave her a black look. ‘Just wait till eight weeks later. We’ll see who’s laughing then.‘ 

Kira covered her mouth with one hand as if that could hide her smile. 

Her eyes twinkled with amusement. 

Austyn stared at her. 

She was wearing a cotton nightdress with a loose V–neck. 

It offered a tantalising glimpse of her décolletage.
