Samantha relayed what she heard from the receptionist. “Mid–twenties, short, dark hair, pretty.” 

She added after a pause, ‘Has dimples when she smiles.” 

Austyn looked pensive 

He drummed a finger on the desk and said after a while, ‘Open it.” 

Samantha removed the lid of the bento box 

A delicious smell soon permeated the entire office. 

The box had six compartments. 

The largest one was packed with steaming white rice. 

The other five contained smoked salmon rillettes, a spice–rubbed whole chicken thigh, two chocolate brownies with walnuts and ganache, and a small portion of truffle cauliflower soup. 

Samantha felt her mouth water and took a deep breath 

‘Maybe Miss Taylor sent this ‘ 

Gwen’s engagement to the vice president was public Inowledge at the company. 

Austyn thought so too. 

‘Just leave it here,‘ he said. 

Samantha nodded and took one last longing look at the box before leaving. 

Austyn returned to work 

But he couldn’t concentrate. 

The food beckoned. 

Austyn’s gaze kept flicking over to the bento box. 

He heard his stomach growl 

In the end, he seized struggling and gave in to temptation 

He knew it wasn’t Owen’s cooking the moment he bit into the succulent chicken thigh 

She was reasonably proficient in the kitchen, but this surpassed anything she’d ever made before. 

At first, Austyn thought Owen ordered takeout from a restaurant. 

But there were no identifiable logos on the box, and the packaging didn’t look like the commercial land. 

Infact, the box was delivered in a simple plastic bag, the type often seen in supermarkets and used for groceries. 

Austyn savoured the slightly salty chicken grilled to perfection. 

Somehow, it tasted familiar.
