Kira clocked off at five pm on the dot so she could make the mad dash to the kindergarten before rush hour. 

The previous babysitter had resigned after her own daughter became pregnant. 

Kira was still looking for a replacement. 

In the meantime, she had to pick up and drop off the kids at school. 

Classes actually ended at three o’clock. 

Kira paid extra for the teacher in charge to keep an eye on the twins from three to five 

She was out of breath when she jogged into the classroom. 

‘Miss Cooper, sorry, the bus was running a little late. 

Kira placed both hands on her knees and panted. 

When she straightened up, she caught the surprised look on the teacher’s face. 

“Miss Hewitt, what are you doing here? 

“Um, I’m here to pick up my kids. 

Kira scanned the classroom. 

The two of them were the only ones there. 

“Where are Joshua and Jennie? 

The teacher’s eyes widened. “But th 

they already left!‘ 

“What? When? They left by themselves?” 

‘No. They left with a man.” 

Kira’s heart pounded. ‘But I didn’t ask anyone else to pick up the twins today!” 

Miss Cooper’s face turned pale. ‘LHe said he’s the children’s father. The twins seemed to know him. Jennle even went up to hug him. I thought.” Father? 

Was the teacher talking about Austyn? 

He came to pick up the children? 

Kira called him straight away. 

“Austyn, are the kids with you?‘ Yes! 

Kira heard Jennie’s voice in the background. 

“Daddy, I want strawberry candy floss!” 

Kira breathed out 

But anxiety was soon replaced by anger. She 

“W the phone. 

are you?! 

Austyn gave her the address. 

“Wait for me there. Don’t go anywhere.” 

Kira hung up.

Miss–Cooper wrung her hands. ‘So…the man’s really their father?” 

Kira clenched her jaw. 

She nodded slightly. “He didn’t tell me he was picking up the kids today. Sorry for the misunderstanding.” 

The teacher was immensely relieved. 

“Thank goodness. I thought…Anyway, good to know the kids are fine.‘ 

Kira left the kindergarten and flagged down a taxi, which took her to the shopping mall. 

She saw Austyn and the kids in a Build–A–Bear shop 

Kira stormed up to him. 

When he looked up, she slapped him hard across the face. 

The kids were shocked. 

Kira was red in the lace with rage.
