Selene walked around the home, which was decorated by servants who had left days before they arrived, so Selene’s family would not be seen.
Selene stopped to look at a portrait she had done with Xavier weeks before, so they could have something to remember this time.
"Agnes, how much do you think the world could change?" Selene asked, curious about the future.
"I do not know. Maybe there will be no need for a king or a queen. Maybe no more humans will be in town, or there will be fewer vampires walking around. I am looking forward to seeing what changes there will be," Agnes replied.
Selene walked away from the portrait to see the rest of the house. "I am looking forward to it as well. The tension between humans and vampires is getting better thanks to the king. I was worried at first, but Michael is a good king."
"He is a good king since he doesn’t send for Lord Blackthorn to go to the palace, and I have heard that the queen is lovely. Is it true that the palace isn’t taking her arrival well still because she is a mixed-blood?" Agnes asked, hoping it wasn’t so.
"That is what Xavier has told me, but the fact that the queen is not a pureblood has made mixed-bloods feel better, and she has been working hard to help the humans and vampires coexist again. The court will never be happy," Selene concluded.
From what Selene heard from Xavier, it seemed that the court would prefer a king who ruined the kingdom.
"How long will it take before he arrives with my family?" Selene asked, quickly growing bored.
"They should arrive soon if Lord Blackthorn flew to where they are waiting like he said they would," Lucas answered.
"Should I get you some blood?" Agnes asked, trying to think of when last Selene had a glass.
The stories of women carrying a child from families like the Blackthorns, always needing blood, made Agnes panic even more.
There had been many times when Selene looked weak, even when she had not long ago drunk blood. Orlork added to Agnes’ worries when he spoke of the child being strong, so Selene would need to double the blood she consumed.
"I do not need any blood, but I might need to send you with Isaac so he might calm you down. I am fine," Selene said, speaking to both Lucas and Agnes.
Lucas had his moments of being overbearing.
Selene had overheard Lucas’s comment about her carrying his next employer. Everyone was crowding around her, and even Josephine had thought of moving back onto the estate when she noticed the change in Selene.
Orlork wished to stay on the estate as well, but he was busy keeping the Blackthorns distracted with other things.
Selene mostly worried about the time the Blackthorns would learn she was pregnant with her first child and try to come around to see if the child would be like Xavier.
In this crazy, dangerous world, it was best to have some kind of power, so Selene hoped the child would inherit Xavier’s talents, but not show them to catch the interest of the Blackthorns.
"Did you hear that?" Selene asked, turning around in the direction of the door. "I think someone has arrived. It must be my family," she said, lifting the sides of her dress so she could run better.
Xavier didn’t back down and continued to stare at Zephyr. frёewebnoѵēl.com
