Betrothed To The Mafia Lord novel Chapter 191

Luca’s POV

“So, bunny?” I called out after about five minutes, I was almost done with my starter and Sofia was already halfway into hers. She stared up at me questioningly.

“Tell me something I do not know about you.” I said to her and watched as she leaned back into her seat, as a far wary look started to settle over her face, probably as she started to think of something to say to me.

“Um, I like books?” She replied, her response sounding like she was asking a question instead of making a statement and I breathed out a small chuckle as I picked up my wine glass and started to move the glass around a little, making the drink swirl around in gushes.

“Oh, you do?” I asked after a few seconds and I watched as she nodded her head once, before she reached down to pick up her glass of drink as well.

“Yeah, I’m pretty much obsessed with them.” She stated as she sipped a little of her drink. It was her third glass of wine while I was still on my first, it seems like she really loved this particular drink. I’d have to remember to note the name of this wine down, so I can stock the frozen room with it.

“Where are all your books though? You did say you’re obsessed with them… I don’t think I’ve ever seen you reading one before.” I said after a moment.

Sofia stills at that, and she was returning her drink back to the table in the next second. She picked up her fork and started moving it around her plate absentmindedly, staring pointedly at her plate. I placed my drink on the table as well, leaning forward and watching her pointedly. I didn’t need to ask her to be able to tell that her mood had somehow dropped at that very moment.

“Bunny?” I called out and watched as she slowly lifted her head. For a fleeting second, I had been unconsciously expecting to see tears streaming down her cheeks because I had unconsciously associated her as someone that shed tears a lot, and I was glad there wasn’t any trace of tears on her cheeks, nor was her eyes wet a little. The only thing off about her at the moment, was the way the bright twinkle in her eyes that had been there ever since she got ready for the date tonight wasn’t anywhere to be found anymore.

She blinked up at me and shifted in her seat a little, and then she reached forward and picked up her glass of wine, lifting it up and pouring the rest of the content into her mouth. I watched as she savored the liquid for a moment, before stretching her glass forward to me a little.

“Can you please pour me another drink?” She asked in a soft voice, like she has been doing very since she got done with the first glass of drink in the blink of an eye. I didn’t like how she looked at the moment. Tonight was her night, I did all these for her. It wouldn’t feel alright if she didn’t enjoy the rest of the night the way I expected her to, the way I had hoped she would, the way she had been obviously doing… until the topic with the books had come up, and then the next moment, she was falling into silence. Before I could figure out what went wrong and how it went wrong, she was already starting to pretend like everything was alright.

I wasn’t having any of that tonight.

I shook my head at her before starting to reply to her, “No, I can’t.”

She was genuinely shocked at first and her eyes had widened at first for a few seconds, and then she had blinked once before starting to question my reasons. “Why?” She asked in a low voice, genuine surprise visible in her voice. I leaned forward and placed my elbow on the top of the table before starting to speak.

“Because you’ve had over three glasses of wine, that’s alright like this, to go with your starter.” I said to her and watched as realization started to dawn on her face.

“Oh.” She whispered after a few moments and I nodded my head once at her.

“Yes, bunny. And you do want to leave some space behind for the actual dinner in your small tummy, don’t you.” I said to her and watched as she pouted a little for a few seconds.
