Chapter 543 An Unfortunate Timing
Daren had barely slept a wink the whole night.
The next morning, there were faint shadows under his eyes, and his complexion was pale as he drove to the Emerald Hotel.
He straightened his tie and plastered his usual, pleasant smile on his face.
Jarrett was applying more pressure, and he couldn’t afford another misstep.
The contract had to be signed–and soon.
He spotted his target the moment he stepped into the hotel lobby.
Tina, Sadie’s assistant, sat by the window at the lounge, casually sipping her coffee.
Daren felt his heart jolt inside his chest. Squaring his shoulders, he lifted his chin and walked over at a brisk pace. “I
wasn’t expecting to see you this early, Miss Delgado.”
Tina paused before setting her cup down and looking up at him.
When she saw that it was Daren, Tina stood up and gave him a polite greeting. “Good morning, Mr. Johnson.”
Daren rubbed his hands together, barely able to keep the urgency from his voice. “Is Ms. Hudson here as well? I need to speak with her. It’s rather important.”
Tina offered him a mild look of regret and shrugged her shoulders. “What unfortunate timing, Mr. Johnson. Ms. Hudson left early this morning. She had plans to go shopping with a friend. Her son’s birthday is coming up, you see, and Ms. Hudson insisted on choosing a present herself. She probably won’t be back until this evening. Perhaps you can schedule a
meeting another time?”
Daren’s smile froze. He blinked twice.
That excuse sounded far too convenient. Had that bastard, Nathan, really got to her first?
A sense of unease crept into Daren’s heart, but he managed to keep his smile intact, albeit a little awkward.
“I see. How unfortunate, indeed. Well, picking out a gift for the little one is more important.”
He pulled a business card out of his jacket pocket and handed it over.
“Please tell Ms. Hudson to give me a call when she returns. I’ll stop by any time she is free.”
Tina accepted it with both hands, her smile courteous and professional. “Of course.”
She gave a slight bow and added, “I’m sorry that you came all this way for nothing, Mr. Johnson.”
Daren graciously waved it off, though his smile grew even more strained. “It’s no trouble. Well, don’t let me keep you, Miss

Delgado.”
He turned away and hurried out of the hotel. If he stayed a minute longer, his expression might finally betray what he was
truly thinking.
That damn woman! Why the hell was she shopping at such a crucial time? She must be doing this on purpose.
Rage simmered in Daren’s chest, but he knew better than anyone that he could do nothing more than swallow it down.
He got into his car and drove off, still huffing in frustration.
Unbeknownst to him, Sadie and Nathan were seated in the Time Café next to the hotel, and they had seen everything
unfold.
