Chapter 545 Misled
Daren’s mind was still a mess when he arrived at the Higgins family’s home.
The events of the past two days weighed heavily on him. First, there was the love affair between his sister and Nathan, and
now there was the matter of the unsigned contract.
Daren did his best to calm himself, only to stop short upon entering the living room.
Jarrett was in his wheelchair as usual, his back to the door. Across from him sat a man in a sleek, silver mask.
Daren’s heart skipped a beat. What was Patrick doing here?
He recalled hearing that the elusive Mr. Noel of the Burgess Group was attending last night’s banquet, but despite having
searched every corner of the venue, Daren had failed to meet him.
It was later in the evening when he overheard that Patrick had left the party early with Sadie.
Daren hadn’t paid much attention then, as his mind was plagued with other, more pressing concerns.
Patrick was a legend in the business world, renowned for his cunning strategies which led to his rapid rise among the
ranks. The Burgess Group had been on the brink of bankruptcy, but he had managed to turn it around, and in just three
years, the company had flourished into a formidable player in the socio–economic scene.
Daren didn’t dare to be careless about his manner. He quickly composed himself and stepped forward with a courteous
smile.
“Mr. Higgins.” Daren greeted Jarrett before turning to Patrick with a slight bow. “Mr. Noel.”
He immediately felt a wave of unease wash over him. Patrick had a commanding presence, and the fact that he was sitting
didn’t make him any less intimidating.
Daren could only hope that the man wasn’t here to stir up any trouble for them.
Noah glanced at Daren briefly, then nodded to acknowledge his greeting. He looked away without saying a word.
Daren’s face grew hot with embarrassment. It was like running into an invisible wall, and now he didn’t know what to do
with himself.
Thankfully, Jarrett chose that moment to break the silence.
He maneuvered his wheelchair so that he was facing Daren, his pale face betraying no emotion. “How did it go? Have you
secured the contract?”
Daren’s heart sank, but he forced a smile. “I went to the hotel early this morning in hopes of meeting with Ms. Hudson,
but her assistant informed me that she had already left by the time I arrived.”
There was no way he was going to tell Jarrett that Sadie’s assistant had practically sent him away with a paltry excuse.
But Jarrett didn’t seem surprised by this outcome. He turned to Noah with a faint, wry smile. “It appears that you were
right, Mr. Noel. My dear brother is quite a handful.”

Daren’s brows furrowed in confusion. What were they talking about?
Noah was unbothered, his eyes deep and unreadable through his silver mask, his voice steady when he said, “Nathan may
be sly and deceitful, but he poses no real threat. He may have been able to mislead Sadie by using some of his tricks, but
