Chapter 550 Why Not Go Together
“She signed off on this arrangement too! It’s not just on me! So why am I the only one paying the price–beaten down,
humiliated? What did I ever do to deserve this?” Nathan asked.
Jack hesitated, brows flickering upward in surprise. There was something uniquely dramatic about Nathan’s meltdown that
struck him as oddly consistent.
He approached with calm restraint. “Mr. Higgins, you’re in bad shape. Let me take you to the hospital.”
Nathan froze mid–sob, lifting his bruised and blotchy face. His stare was venomous. With a sharp motion, he knocked
Jack’s hand away.
“Save your fake concern! I don’t need it!”
He clumsily pushed himself off the floor, legs shaky but oddly determined.
Sniffling, he sprinted toward the elevator without a backward glance, looking utterly drained and disgraced.
Jack exhaled heavily, then stepped back into the luxurious suite.
By the floor–to–ceiling window, Noah stood still, rubbing his temples. His concealed features gave away nothing.
Nathan, that idiot, actually dared to announce an engagement with Sadie? It might have been a strategic ploy, but it still
suffocated him. He couldn’t allow it to go any further.
“Set up a meeting with the Higgins family elders first thing tomorrow.”
He had to show up at Higgins Manor himself.
Nathan was clearly using the Wall Group’s influence to boost his standing in the family. Noah wasn’t going to sit by and
watch.
Jack gave a quiet nod. “Consider it done, sir.”
He was beginning to think his employer’s plans were getting harder to predict.
The following day, just as Sadie stepped through the hotel’s front exit, a loud pink convertible came into view.
Nathan leaned against the side, hands tucked into his pants, dressed more tastefully than usual. His oversized shades and a tight mask left little of his face visible. To an outsider, he might’ve passed for a sketchy celeb–or someone running from
the law.
Sadie’s pace slowed. Her gaze sharpened. The flashy car and over–the–top look screamed Nathan.
She walked up and gave him a once–over. “Trying out a secret identity today, Mr. Higgins?”
At the sound of her voice, Nathan’s shoulders stiffened. He snapped to attention and pulled off his glasses, revealing puffy.
tired eyes.
Rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly, he mumbled, “Good morning, Ms. Hudson.”
Straightening his posture, he scrambled for an excuse. “Uh… strong UV rays today. Gotta keep the skin safe.” He didn’t
sound convinced.
Truth be told, the thrashing he’d received the previous day had left him so bruised, that he couldn’t bear the idea of being
seen–least of all by Sadie, whose beauty made it even worse.
Before he could continue, a flicker of doubt crept into Sadie’s eyes.
Her gaze sharpened as she studied the mask hiding his features. It wasn’t logical–nobody needed sun protection at such an
early hour.
A hunch took hold of her. Without hesitation, she reached forward and yanked the covering from Nathan’s face.
Just as she thought, his features were a mess. One side of his mouth still carried a bluish smear. Swelling distorted his
cheekbones. He looked like he’d been through a warzone–beaten and broken.
Why? What happened? Did Jarrett or Daren unleash an attack?
Sadie’s sculpted eyebrows lifted with intrigue, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity.
Nathan squirmed under her scrutiny. He had the urge to hide his face, but the shame was already too deep. He remained
frozen, awkward and exposed.
Getting attacked was bad enough, but being targeted on the orders of that masked man–he couldn’t even talk about it. The pain was bottled up, with no outlet.
As he scrambled for an excuse, movements at the hotel entrance caught his eye. Two individuals stepped out. Nathan
stiffened like he’d been struck again.
He forced himself to smile, wiping any trace of distress from his expression. “I accidentally ran into a tree last night.”
Sadie’s lips twitched. Did he think she was naive? She wasn’t buying it.
‘Her attention drifted beyond him–to Noah, who had just emerged from the hotel. Her eyes narrowed as she pieced things
