I smiled. "Really? I suppose it’s an honor for me to meet Mr. Benedict today. How lucky am I?”
Michelle immediately came over and wrapped her arm around my shoulder, excitedly saying, "You're absolutely right, Chloe! Mr. Benedict is the CEO of Havenhill Corporation. Do you know Havenhill? He practically has a say in everything.”
I replied decisively, "I’ve never heard of it."
The air grew awkward. Michelle responded quickly, "You don't know Havenhill? I can't believe it, Chloe. You're in the business world, and you don't even know Havenhill?"
"Yeah, that's why you're disappointed. I've told you before, I'm just in construction, and I’m a complete country bumpkin. How would I know anything? I don’t even know who the big shots are."
I just wanted to get out of this situation quickly as my 7 o'clock appointment was the real deal. Staying here with them wouldn’t get me anything.
Benedict seemed displeased when he heard what I said. "Your friend doesn't seem very knowledgeable, Michelle. She’s ignorant, and it seems like she’s looking down on us.”
He made a sarcastic remark, and Tyler couldn't hide his discomfort. He immediately looked at Michelle with a sinister gleam in his eyes.
Just then, the waiter knocked on the door to serve the dishes, breaking the awkward atmosphere. However, none of them spoke.
After the waiters finished serving the dishes, Michelle quickly reached for a bottle of wine and skillfully opened it. She poured a glass for Benedict, then walked to my side, filling my glass as well.
She patted my shoulder and said, "Since you're here, Chloe, just go with the flow. Have a drink with Mr. Benedict for my sake.”
