Billionaire's Pregnant Ex-wife novel Chapter 105

Chapter 105

We were halfway to our destination when I pulled my car to the side of the road. Grey parked his car in a safe spot before he emerged from inside. With quick, long steps, he crossed the distance between us, reached my car, and climbed inside. Once he was settled

and comfortable in his seat, he gestured for me to continue driving.

Obediently, I maneuvered my car back onto the road and continued to drive quietly. Grey fished his phone out of the pocket of his black hoodie jacket and called someone. Despite not being able to hear the other side, I knew what the conversation was about. He was

calling a friend to take his car where he had left it, using the duplicate key.

After he told the person on the other line about the location, the call ended. He returned the

phone to his pocket. The inside of the car went silent throughout the trip. We were both

tense, and our minds skittered to faraway places to even start a conversation.

I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread swelling inside me. I just knew something terrible was about to happen tonight. Despite telling myself that it was going to be alright, I couldn’t convince myself because deep down, I knew it wasn’t going to be okay.

Taking a deep breath, I pressed my foot on the accelerator, and the car sped freely along the wide, empty road. We were almost on the outskirts of town, and there were no other cars in

sight except for my own.

Outside the window, the spaces between the streets grew farther apart. The moonlight hovering across the dark sky helped illuminate the road. The trip, which normally takes

hours, seemed to stretch even longer. After what felt like forever, we passed through an old, dilapidated church, which meant we were almost at our destination.

As the text instructed, once I passed through the old abandoned church, I needed to drive a few more meters, and when I finally saw a red gate, I had to park my car outside and enter.

The red, rusty gates finally came into view. Grey saw it first, though he said nothing. He’d been dangerously calm the whole trip, and it bothered me. I couldn’t help but wonder what

was going through his mind at that moment. I didn’t like how silent he was. It was as if he

were channeling all his strength before unleashing it for the real battle.

My car skidded to a stop in front of the gate. I hadn’t gotten out of the car yet. Instead, I took some time to survey the place and looked for any possible way of escape. Barbed wire protected the top of the gate from intruders. Once the gate was closed, there would be no

way out.

There was no other house nearby, which meant no matter how loud I screamed, no one

would come to my rescue.

Stay here, Lily. Don’t get out of the car. I will check inside.

I sucked in a deep breath as Grey got out of the car without waiting for my response. He then crept inside the abandoned house. Unease filled my chest as I waited for him to emerge. But more than ten minutes passed, and yet he didn’t return to the car.

Did the culprit catch him? The thought filled me with dread. My chest felt tight, and I felt as

though I couldn’t breathe properly.

I reached for the car handle to open the door, but Grey’s words reverberated in my head. He told me not to get out of the car and to stay inside until he returned.

I waited another ten minutes, but Grey still didn’t emerge from the house. Did something bad happen to him? I restlessly thought to myself while my cold fingers began to shake from worry and fear.

When I heard the sound of a gun firing from a distance, a scream escaped my lips. Despite the urge to run inside the house to check if Grey was alright, I didn’t move from my place. I curled inside the car, trembling in fear. Opening my bag, I took a small pistol and placed it in the holster at my thigh. Just in case something happened, I would be able to protect

myself.

The movement at the gate caught my attention. I heard the gate creak and swing open, revealing a man wearing a hooded jacket limping toward the gate with his head bowed. He was holding his injured left shoulder.

Grey!I gasped in alarm. Without a moment’s delay, I opened the car door and ran toward him. He grabbed the gate to hold himself steady. As I crossed the distance between us, I saw that his shoulder was bleeding.

What happened, Grey?I asked him. When my gaze landed on his bleeding hands, terror

crawled up my spine. There was so much blood.

He didn’t reply. Instead, his face remained bowed toward the ground.

The moment my gaze landed on his shoes, I finally realized something was wrong.

However, before I could react, something hard and cold slammed into my head. The last

thing I knew was falling to the ground before darkness took over.

Slowly, my eyes fluttered open. The memories before I lost consciousness came crashing

back to me.

I found myself lying on the cold, hard floor. My hands were tied behind me with rope. I

wasn’t alone on the floor. There was an unconscious man lying beside me, and when I

looked at him, I found Grey.

A horrified gasp escaped my lips when I saw the sleeve of his tshirt was soaked in blood.

For whatever reason, he was no longer wearing his black jacket. Wiggling close to him, I

forced myself to get up using my feet, which were left untied.

He was not dead! A relieved sigh emerged from my lips when I saw the rise and fall of his

chest. When I looked closely at the wound on his shoulder, it wasn’t fatal. The bullet had

only grazed the surface of his skin. Like me, his head was bleeding too, as though he had been struck in the head with something hard and heavy.

Grey, please wake up! Please wake up.I tried to wake him by rubbing my arms against his shoulders. At first, he didn’t move, but I didn’t stop what I was doing. After a moment of struggle, a groan escaped his lips, and he began to stir from his deep slumber. When he opened his eyes, he looked at me with a puzzled expression. It took him a few seconds to process everything.
