Chapter 70
“I’m glad you decided to come here to France. Your mother will be surprised when she sees you,” Philip welcomed me with wide–open arms at the door. His eyes glittered with tears as he looked at me. Crossing the distance between us, he hugged me tightly.
Unable to suppress my emotions, tears welled in my eyes. “We never expected you to follow us here. That’s why, when I saw you, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” he added when he let me
“I feel like I would miss a part of my life if I were not with everyone, so I decided to come,” I told him truthfully, to which he replied with a blissful smile.
“Come inside; I’ll tell the servant to prepare a snack for us. We have something important to talk about.”
Philip ushered me inside. My eyes surveyed the interior of the house, and I swooned. This house was on another level. Never in my life before did I imagine myself living in a place
like this.
Pulling to a stop, Philip turned to the two servants we passed in the foyer and ordered one
to take my suitcase and unpack my things. He then turned to the other and instructed her to prepare a snack for us.
We continued to walk until we came across an elevator. After getting inside, he pushed the
button for the third floor.
Philip ushered me into his plush office and gestured for me to sit down on the velvety sofa,
which I did. He then sat down in the seat opposite me so that we were facing each other.
“Everyone’s not home yet, but they will be here soon,” he informed me. “Your mother and grandma went to one of the newly opened hotels we own to oversee the operation and make sure it’s running smoothly. As for your brothers, I don’t know where all of them are, but I’m sure they’re working too.”
A knock on the door sounded, and a servant came inside the office with a tray in her hand.

After placing the contents of her tray on the table, she immediately left the room.
Grabbing my cup, I took a sip of my coffee. Philip did the same.
Clearing his throat, he began, “We have something important to discuss.” His grave expression told me he was about to ask me a very difficult question.
“I have given you enough time to recover from your mental and emotional trauma, Lilibeth. But although I know that you’re not yet fully recovered, I want you to tell me exactly what happened to you that day we thought you died in a fire.”
Slowly, I lowered the cup to the table.

I dreaded the day I would have to tell my family what happened to me that fateful day
because I knew it would hurt them as much as it hurt me once they heard the story. But I
couldn’t keep running forever. If there was a suitable time to spill the truth, it had to be
now.
“That day… when everyone thought I died in the fire… I was kidnapped,” I said in a
whisper. My hand began to shake as the dreadful memory came rushing back to me.
“And the fire was only a cover–up so no one would come looking for you… so everyone would assume you died in it?” Philip said. The words were more of a statement than a
question.
I nodded my head.
“Two men kidnapped me and then brought me to the main culprit in exchange for money. However, the two men were killed to permanently silence them. I don’t know what happened next because I lost consciousness.”
Sucking in a deep breath, I continued, “When I woke up, I was already on a yacht. While trying to escape from my captor, I was thrown over the rails. That’s when I was shot in the chest and fell into the ocean.”
“It’s a miracle that you survived,” he said, the pain audible in his words.

“A miracle indeed. The waves washed me ashore. A kind woman found me and brought me
to the hospital.”
The room fell into a long and seemingly endless silence.
After collecting himself, Philip asked, “Do you remember who did that to you?”
“I do,” I replied. “She was my husband’s mistress, and now she’s his wife.”
**
Philip had wanted revenge, but I only wanted to live my life again and forget the people who made my life a living hell.
He wanted me to file a case of attempted murder against Natalia Romani and adultery against my ex–husband, Grey Gabriel Bradford, but there was no evidence left that could prove them guilty of the charges.
Natalia had killed the men who kidnapped me. There were no other witnesses who could testify in court. I had no evidence that she brought me onto the yacht and then shot me. Also, Grey was married to Natalia now, and filing an adultery case against them would be
useless.
Philip accepted my decision to lie low and live my life in peace, but he promised me that no
one would ever hurt me again.
