Six days from now, it will be my twenty–fifth birthday, I thought to myself while seated in my swivel chair inside my plush office, which was located on the eighth floor of the sixteen–story Fleur De Luna Hotel.
My parents hired an organizer to oversee the preparation of my birthday party. I have nothing to do except sit down, relax, and wait for my special day to arrive. However, it was impossible to just sit still and wait for people to get the job done. I’m used to working on things on my own without relying on anyone.
Despite my parents‘ protests, I helped them prepare for my birthday party, which is going to be held at the magnificent La Paraiso Hotel, which is now my property.
My property. The thought brought a smile to my lips.
Who would expect that I am now the owner of the hotel where I got kicked out a year ago?
It’s been more than a year since I stepped foot in that place. I wondered if any of the old employees would recognize me now. Maybe they would, since nothing in me has changed -only improved. I learned to dress properly and carry myself with class in front of everyone. But despite those improvements, my facial features remain the same. That made
me think people would recognize me after all, especially Elizabeth Bradford. I want to see
the look of horror on her face once she sees me and discovers that the hotel she valued the
most is now mine.
My gaze dropped to the contract she signed. It was proof she had fully given me ownership of the hotel for an agreed amount. She would not be able to withdraw from the agreement even if she changed her mind since she sealed the deal with her signature. The full payment had also been transferred to her bank account, so there was no turning back for her.
Rising from the chair, I gazed outside the window overlooking a wide infinity swimming pool.
Despite the years I’d been away from Grey, his shadow still haunts me. I see him all the

time, almost everywhere: in huge street billboards, in the latest edition magazines, in newspapers, and even in television shows and commercials.
It seems I wouldn’t be able to forget his existence with destiny trying its best to remind me
of him.
I heard he had a rocky marriage with Natalia. He’d never been faithful to her during the
first year of their marriage, and I pity the woman. But then she deserved it for stealing
someone’s husband. She’d been a mistress once; eventually, she turned out to be the
present wife and was now in the same pitiful situation I was in before divorcing Grey.
The telephone rang, jolting me out of my deep thoughts. Heaving a sigh, I turned away from the window and grabbed the telephone.
“Hello?”
“The private luxury helicopter is ready, Miss Phoenix,” my secretary informed me.
“I’ll be on my way.” I thanked her before ending the call.
Grabbing my pink coat from the rack, I hung it on my shoulders, then went to pick up my handbag and walked to the door with quick but elegant movements.
Entering the elevator, I pressed the button for the sixteenth floor, the top floor of Fleur De Luna Hotel, where I knew my luxury helicopter was waiting.
As expected, Melissa was waiting for me on the rooftop.
“Please take care, Miss Phoenix,” she told me, smiling.
“I told you not to call me Miss Phoenix,” I reminded her. “Call me Lily.”
“You are my boss, and it is only right to call you that way,” she shyly responded.
Melissa Elisse is my classmate in college. We instantly clicked together when we met and became best friends. I hired her to be my secretary, and since then, she started to call me
‘Miss Phoenix.‘

“Even though we are very close, I still want to show you my respect as my employer,” it was exactly what Melissa told me the first time I asked her not to call me in such a formal
way.
“Well then, I’ll be on my way, Melissa,” I told her.
“Are you sure you want to go alone?” she asked, worry evident in her amber eyes,
Melissa knew exactly about my past. I didn’t keep it a secret from her because I knew she was a trustworthy friend. I understood what was bothering her; it was the thought that I might accidentally brush shoulders with Natalia Romani and my ex–husband, Grey Gabriel Bradford.
“Don’t worry about me,” I assured her. “I’ll be fine,” I added, smiling at her one last time.
I’m not the same Lily anymore. I know exactly how to deal with people who treated me like trash before, I thought to myself while making my way to the waiting aircraft.
I climbed into my luxurious private helicopter and settled into my seat.
Minutes later, the private jet was safely on its way to A country, where my story all began.

I had fallen asleep in my seat, and when I woke up, the helicopter was still flying through the sky.
“Do you want any drinks, Ma’am?” Arianne asked. She’s also an employee at Fleur De Luna Hotel. However, every time the luxury private plane leaves with VIP guests aboard, she goes with it to take good care of the guests.
“Coffee, please,” I requested.

While Arianne was making my coffee, I asked her how long I’d been sleeping.
“Almost an hour, Ma’am,” she replied.
Done making my coffee, she placed it on the table in front of me.

“Do you want any snacks, Ma’am? We still have cakes in the fridge,” Arianne said temptingly. She knew about my affinity for cakes and knew exactly what flavors I liked the
most. “We have Tiramisu and Mocha Cake,” she added, unable to hide the amused smile on
her lips as she bit her lip.
“Stop teasing me, Arianne,” I told her. “I’m still breastfeeding Isabelle, and my doctor forbids me to eat too many sweets.” I heaved a sigh, pushing the tempting idea of cakes out of my mind.
“Just trying to tease you, Ma’am.”
“Stop teasing me and just sit down and have coffee with me.”
I turned my attention to my cup of steaming coffee and inhaled its sweet, aromatic scent.
