Elizabeth Bradford stared at me with bulging eyes. Her eyes were so wide that an apple

could almost fit inside.

Thinking that it must be her imagination playing a trick on her, she blinked several times, but when I didn’t disappear from her sight, which she was expecting, she jerked out of her swivel chair. The force of her movement caused the poor chair to tumble onto the floor

with a loud thud.

“Lily!” she gasped, chasing her breath. The intense rise and fall of her chest made her appear as though she’d been running a mile when, in fact, she was barely moving.

“Lilibeth Phoenix,” I corrected her, my lips stretching into an even sweeter smile. I saw her clutch her chest with both hands as if she were having a heart attack.

Her eyes surveyed the golden earrings dangling from my ears, then moved to the signature. clothes draping my body, before settling on the limited edition pink stiletto shoes covering my feet. Realizing how expensive everything was, her jaw dropped to the floor.

“No!” Elizabeth exclaimed in disbelief when she recovered. “You’re dead! You can’t possibly be here.” She mumbled under her breath while rapidly shaking her head.

Amusement lit my eyes as I watched her panic–stricken gaze.

“Look into my eyes, Elizabeth, and tell me if I’m dead.”

Swallowing deeply, Elizabeth Bradford focused her eyes on mine. Her hands began to tremble. “B–but you d–died in a fire-”

“No, I didn’t, Elizabeth. I wouldn’t be standing here if I had.”

“T–the body… the forensics confirmed it was-

“They either made a mistake, or someone paid them to fake my death. It’s one of the two, so stop stressing yourself out or you’ll end up with more wrinkles. The money you’ve spent

Her cheeks turned crimson in rage. She looked at me with daggers in her eyes. Despite trying to act calm, her voice still trembled when she spoke. “W–what are you doing here, Lily?”

“Didn’t you hear me? I’m the new owner of La Paraiso Hotel. I’m taking over what I own,” I

told her.

Elizabeth paled. As if her strength had been sucked out of her body, she held onto the edge of the wooden table for support.

“No! It’s not true! It’s not true,” she whispered repeatedly, trying to deny the truth.

She began shaking her head once more.

“Wake up, Elizabeth. You’re not dreaming! This hotel you’re so proud of is now mine,” I said, my tone surprisingly calm.

“You’re lying!” Elizabeth raised her voice. Glaring at me with indescribable hatred in her eyes, she snapped, “You can’t fool me! Even if you’re wearing decent and expensive clothes now, you’re still dirt poor. There’s no way you have millions of dollars to buy this hotel!”

“Don’t underestimate my worth, Elizabeth. You have no idea how hard I worked for years

to achieve what I have now,” I told her in a menacingly soft voice that had her staring at me incredulously as if I had slapped her in the face with those words.

Despite the fear looming beneath her eyes, she forced a burst of laughter to emerge from her lips. “Show me the proof, and I will believe you,” she dared me with her false bravado.

Yet again, I gave her another sweet smile, one that immediately wiped her false self- confidence away. “Allow me to show you the proof.” Opening my clutch bag, I took out the

folded contract and showed it to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Bradford snatched the contract from my hands and skimmed the paper to check if it was fabricated. She paled upon seeing her signature on the document.

“No! This can’t be! No!” she gasped. Her fingers repeatedly brushed against her hair–a bad habit she had when she was nervous and under pressure.

“Face the reality, Elizabeth. This is just the beginning of your downfall.”

“I refuse to hand La Paraiso Hotel over to you. Never!” Elizabeth screamed in rage. “I will destroy the only evidence you have.” Without warning, she tore the paper into multiple pieces and scattered the fragments into the air like white confetti.

With a smug smile on her lips, she looked at me. “Now you have no proof you own this hotel.”

“I have the original contract in my office. You only destroyed the copy.”

The smug smile on Elizabeth’s face was wiped away.

“I feel sad thinking that you think you could trick me, Elizabeth. I know you better than

anyone else. I know what type of person you are. Do you think I would foolishly let you tear the contract that easily? Duh! No way!”

“Leave, Lily. I don’t want to talk to you anymore!”

“I now own this hotel, and I can do whatever I please. I’m the one ordering you to leave,” I

replied, holding onto the little patience I had left. Elizabeth and I locked gazes.

“I’m giving you five minutes, Elizabeth. If you still refuse to follow my order, I will have the guards drag you out of the hotel I own.”

“Do it!” Elizabeth threatened. “Let’s see whose orders they will follow!”

At that moment, the office door unceremoniously flung open, and Luis strode inside with a dangerous scowl on his face. “Time’s up, Lily,” he told me.

Elizabeth’s eyes widened in recognition the moment her gaze dropped to Luis. She immediately recognized him as the eldest son of Sophia and Philip!

“Huh! So you used your body to hook a billionaire!” she remarked sarcastically. Her eyes

shifted between Luis and me. “So that’s why you’re a Phoenix now–because you married that man,” she added in an insulting voice.

Two hotel guards entered the door. “Drag her out of this building,” Luis ordered without a glint of emotion on his face.

Elizabeth stood confidently in her place, believing the guards wouldn’t touch her. “Touch me, and I will fire you,” she threatened, but her words had no effect on the two men. They both grabbed her by each arm and carried her across the room despite her fitful screams and kicks.

When Elizabeth passed in front of me, I gave her a triumphant smile, saying, “I told you so.”

Looking her straight in the eye, I spoke. “I’m not like you, Elizabeth. I don’t use my body to hook a rich man. Men fall to their knees without me doing anything. I want to inform you that Luis is my brother. Sophia and Philip are my biological parents.”

Elizabeth stared back at me as though a bomb had been dropped right in front of her. She was unable to say a word as the guards dragged her to the door, and she disappeared from my sight.

When she was gone, Luis turned to me with worry in his eyes. “Did she hurt you?” he quietly asked.

“She didn’t,” I assured him. “I’d mop the floor with her face if she’d ever laid a finger on

me,” I added seriously.

Luis brightened, and he smiled. “That’s my sister.”
