Luis gently took my hand and placed it on his arm.
My eyes swept over his appearance, a smile of admiration on my lips. My brother looked breathtakingly handsome in his black tuxedo. It was hard not to notice him when he looked so gorgeous tonight. His sleek, black hair was swept back, but a few strands fell onto his forehead, giving him a bad boy look. As usual, his eyes looked serious and domineering, but
it only added to his mysterious appeal, which women liked.
“Your hands are cold,” he whispered. A frown made its way to his forehead as he reached for my icy–cold hands.
“Are you okay, Lily?” he quietly asked me.
I nodded in response. After a moment of hesitation, I added, “I’m just a bit nervous,” I told him truthfully.
He gave me a soft, reassuring smile as he squeezed my fingers. “You shouldn’t be. This is your party, and you don’t have to be scared of the guests. Just smile and be yourself,” he
told me.
With my hand on his arm, Luis and I walked together. We pulled to a stop when we reached the stairs where I would walk down after my name was called.
The first thing that greeted my vision when we stopped was the large, elegant chandelier dangling from the ceiling. Down below, the elegantly decorated grand hall was filled with guests wearing their best attire.
My heart quickened, and my pulse jittered as I watched the guests below. I was still hidden from their view, but from where I stood, I could freely observe them.
My heart continued to hammer inside my chest. It was so wild that I wondered if the room
could hear my heartbeat.
There were so many visitors waiting down the stairs–it was more than I had imagined.

I assumed we only had hundreds of guests, but as I looked down, the guests were thrice as many as I had envisioned.
As if fate were teasing me, I spotted a man in a gray tuxedo on the side of the room, and suddenly my heart went ballistic.
Even with his mask on, I recognized him. Without a doubt in my mind, I knew it was him.
I nearly took a step backward at the sight of him.
‘Holy moly,‘ I muttered under my breath, suppressing the urge to flee from his presence.
There was no turning back for me, however.
The lights dimmed, signaling my grand entrance. It was the cue I had been waiting for, and I put on my feather mask.
When the spotlight stopped at the top of the stairs, where I stood, the crowd fell into stunned silence as they noticed me for the first time.
Whatever doubts and fears I had in mind, I pushed them away. With renewed strength, my self–confidence increased.
I lifted my chin high and smiled at the crowd before taking a step forward.
It’s showtime.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let us all welcome Lilibeth Phoenix.”
The room erupted into applause.
Grey Gabriel Bradford raised his gaze to the top of the stairs where everyone was looking and saw a tall, slim woman elegantly dressed like a queen descending the stairs. Beside her stood a tall and handsome man in a tailored tuxedo.
Her movements were slow and graceful, and he couldn’t tear his gaze away from her

direction. Something inside him urged him to approach the crowd gathered at the bottom of the staircase in stunned silence, waiting for her to reach the bottom.
She looked like a princess straight out of a fairy tale, a part of his mind said, but another part argued that she looked more like a queen, and he finally agreed with that sentiment.
Surveying her body with his gaze instantly made his throat go dry. The gown she wore looked exquisite on her, making it appear as though the stars were glittering at her feet.
As he looked around him, he noticed he wasn’t the only one admiring the woman. A hundred other men were doing the same.
The dazed crowd’s gaze remained glued to the top of the stairs, looking at the woman with admiration in their eyes.
A waiter passed by, and he grabbed a glass of wine and drank the contents in one gulp. But even after drinking, the wine couldn’t ease the dryness in his throat.
He took another glass of wine and watched the birthday celebrant descend the stairs, an epitome of beauty and grace.
With each move she made, her long, curly hair cascaded down her elegant shoulders like a magnificent waterfall, dancing behind her with life.
She looked at him and smiled. When she did, his heart jolted inside his chest. He was
surprised by her effect on him that he almost choked on his wine.
