“I want a divorce, Natalia,” Grey told her, his gaze piercing through her sharply as though
he was trying to execute her in his mind.
Natalia stood frozen in place, too shocked to speak a word. Knowing her legs would collapse if she didn’t sit down, she slumped onto the long sofa inside her room.
“This marriage was doomed to end in misery from the very start. Let’s not make ourselves even more miserable by prolonging our suffering,” he continued. Each word coming from
his lips was like a knife stabbing her chest.
She felt her whole world turn upside down. Despite doing her best, she couldn’t keep him
after all.
Natalia swallowed deep and hard. Tears burned her eyes, but she did her best to suppress them. She wasn’t going to cry in front of Grey! Never!
Frozen like a statue, she slowly raised her eyes to him. “Why?” she asked, surprised that she had spoken the words in a surprisingly calm manner. “Is it because of Lily that you don’t want me anymore?”
“We both know that is not the reason why,” Grey replied. His eyes looked sad and tired.
“Then why?” she snapped, clenching her fists into tight balls in her lap.
“We don’t love each other,” Grey continued, trying to make her see his point, but she shook her head.
“But I love you, Grey!” she erupted in rage, rising from the sofa to face him. “I love you so much!” she repeated desperately as tears burned her eyes.
“But I don’t feel the same about you. You know that.”
“Because you never tried to!” she blurted out, her cheeks flushed. “You only see the bad in me! Not my good side.”

“God knows I tried to love you, Natalia. But I couldn’t teach myself to love you, though I forced myself to,” he said, the grave expression on his face scaring her.
She couldn’t afford to lose him, she thought to herself as a sudden surge of fear assaulted her chest. Maybe… maybe he wouldn’t pursue the divorce if she begged him to.
Swallowing her pride, she knelt on the cold hard floor before raising her head to him. “Please, don’t divorce me. I love you. I will lose my mind if you leave me. I love you so much… I don’t want anyone else to have you…” she pleaded miserably, something she had never done for anyone before.
Grey’s expression remained unchanged. He showed no pity, only coldness. He grabbed her
slender shoulders with his hands and forced her to get up on her knees. He then looked deep into her eyes. “Is that the reason why you tried to kill Lily?” he asked in a dangerously
calm manner.
She paled. Her eyes widened in shock.
When her gaze shifted to his, she saw the cold, murderous look in them. Shivers instantly
ran down her spine.
In a blink of an eye, she pulled away from him, her face twisting into an ugly mask of rage. “Did she tell you that?” She tried to speak calmly, but the words came out harshly.
“No, she didn’t,” Grey replied, rather truthfully.
Liar!
A hysterical laugh burst from her lips. The sound of her laughter echoed in the room. She laughed and laughed until tears fell down her cheeks.
“You believe that bitch,” her voice thundered inside the room after she finished laughing.
“Lily told me nothing, Natalia. If she did, I wouldn’t be squeezing the truth from you,” he firmly denied it. He was obviously taking Lily’s side.
Pain and jealousy struck her in the chest, making it ache badly. But soon the pain

disappeared, replaced by hatred.
“I’m not a murderer!” she spat without flinching. “If I killed her, then she should have been dead by now! She lied to you, Grey! She’s a pathological liar! You should not believe
her!”
He quietly looked at her as if he didn’t believe her words. Natalia clenched her fists tighter
until her fingers hurt.
“I know you are hiding the truth, but I will not force you to tell me the whole story. Eventually, what you did,to Lily will one day haunt you back, Natalia,” Grey said, turning
away from her and making his way to the door, leaving her behind.
“Don’t turn your back on me!” she yelled.
Ignoring her, he continued to walk. But before he could pull the door open, he stopped but didn’t turn to face her. He spoke instead. “Whether you like it or not, I will file for divorce.
My lawyer will meet you when the divorce papers are ready.”
He quietly left the room.
Clutching her pounding head, Natalia screamed in fury when he was gone! She cursed him
over and over again, wishing he were dead.
The tears she had tried to suppress broke free, falling down her cheeks like a waterfall. Her
knees felt weak. Before she collapsed on the floor, she slumped onto the sofa.
Horrible sobs filled the room.
Why do people in her life leave her?
She was five when her biological mother abandoned her in an orphanage.
She was twelve when her best friend died.
Now, at twenty–five, her husband was leaving her for another woman.
What did she do to deserve being abandoned? Natalia whimpered in agony.
