Billionaire's Pregnant Ex-wife novel Chapter 91

A few minutes later, I emerged from one of the cubicles and made a beeline straight to the sink. Washing my hands, my mind skittered back to what I had eaten that morning and wondered what had given me an upset stomach. I remembered eating threewas it four? -servings of milky cheese donuts. Perhaps that was what caused my stomach trouble.

Done soaping my hands and rinsing them, I dried my hands on the sensoroperated hand dryer before leaving the comfort room to return to the front desk where my daughter

Isabelle waited.

An ominous thud hit my chest as I made my way back. I ignored the feeling and continued to cross the hallways with quick, long steps. A few seconds later, I could clearly see the front desk office and noticed my employees were still there. However, another tall and erect figure, wearing only a black tshirt and jeans, had joined them.

My heart raced inside my chest as recognition slammed through me with force. The man standing at the front desk with Isabelle now in his arms was my exhusband.

My greatest fears had finally come to life.

The sight drained the color from my cheeks. For a moment, I had to stop walking and hold on to the wall for support before my weak legs could collapse.

What was he doing here? A frustrated voice inside me asked.

I saw Grey holding the baby in his arms as though he had done it a thousand times before. A bright smile was plastered on his handsome face.

Please go away, I repeated in my head, hoping some kind of divine force would send the message to him and he would leave.

But it seemed my pleas fell on deaf ears. Grey wasn’t showing any sign he would leave soon. I couldn’t just stand there and wait until he left because as long as Isabelle was there, he had all the reason to stay, especially since four of my receptionists had returned to the front desk to accommodate a group of tourists checking in at the hotel.

Grey had Isabelle all to himself, and it seemed he was enjoying holding the little angel in his arms.

I took a deep breath, then released it in a deep sigh. I repeated the inhale and exhale process until my insides calmed down.

Summoning all the courage I could muster, I lifted my head and displayed a blank expression on my face before crossing the distance between me and Grey,

He was so engrossed in making Isabelle smile that he didn’t notice me immediately. I cleared my throat to catch his attention, and that finally made him look at me,

Yes?Grey’s eyebrows lifted in wonder. He wasn’t surprised to see me at all. Ignoring me, he turned his gaze back to Isabelle and whispered something to her, which made her lips. curl into a slight smile,

Irritated, 1 glared at him. How could he just ignore me?

Can I take the baby back?I asked, and that finally made his thick eyebrows quirk up with interest. He looked at me,

Your daughter?he asked. I knew at that moment his quick mind was trying to calculate

the details.

Yes, she is my daughter,I replied, raising my chin.

His eyes went wide in surprise, but he immediately sobered up and looked at me without any expression on his face,

Before he could form a conclusion, I added in a firm voice, She’s adopted.I was surprised by how smoothly the lie rolled off my tongue.

She’s a very adorable baby,Grey said fondly, in the gentlest voice I had ever heard from him.

I was so surprised that he immediately accepted my lie without further questions that it

took me a moment to react,

Isabelle,he repeated as though he was softly savoring her name on his lips. She has a very lovely name,he added.

I was so entranced by how Grey looked at Isabelle that it took me a moment to summon my words. When I did, I tried to make my words sound formal.

Can I take my daughter back?I asked him.

Grey didn’t move. I repeated the question in case he hadn’t heard me, even though I was sure he had.

He gave a long, lingering look at Isabelle and, with regret in his eyes, he carefully handed the baby to me. But the moment I took Isabelle into my arms, she started crying.

Panic seized me, and I lulled her to sleep. That didn’t work; she continued to cry.

Was she hungry?

Was something hurting her?

Was her tummy aching?

Crooning sweet words in her ears, I continued to gently rock her in my arms. I knew she wasn’t hungry because Mom told me she fed Isabelle before leaving the house.

You look as though you’re going to pass out,he remarked, amusement lighting his eyes.

I ignored him. It wasn’t funny at all.

Let me take her,he said. It wasn’t a favor but an order. I didn’t argue with him anymore and willingly handed the baby back to him.

In the blink of an eye, Isabelle stopped crying!

I shot Grey a stabbing glare. How could Isabelle like him more? Didn’t she want her mommy to hold her?

I could only watch him cradle the tiny angel in his arms, wondering if she sensed that her

father was there.

What are you doing here in the hotel?I shot him the question, my lips pursed into a tight

line.

I’m temporarily staying here, so I have every right to be in this place,he replied calmly. He sat down on the long cozy bench and gestured for me to sit down, but I chose not to. I was far more comfortable watching him from a distance.

I know it wasn’t the right time to say this to you, but I would like to apologize for what she did to you,he said in a low voice. Even though he did not mention any names, I knew he was referring to Natalia.

I’m really sorryIf only I could do something to show you how sorry I am, I would,he

added.

Completely taken aback by his overflowing sincerity, I could only watch him in silence. No words came out of my lips at all.

I didn’t want to revisit the traumatic experience I had with his wife. Even though she was

dead, the memories would surely haunt me for the rest of my life. I kept my mouth closed

since I had no idea what to reply.

He respected my silence and didn’t say anything more.

Grey finally rose from the bench. When he handed my daughter back to me, I was surprised

to see she had fallen asleep!

He was a miracle worker! I usually had trouble making her fall asleep in an environment
