"I didn’t expect the medicine to take so long to wear off," the young man smiled as he placed the book aside.
That familiar dark blue hair and those eyes filled with obscenity... Xion never expected that his kidnapper would be Caspian Hale.
Time splintered around the name.
It had been almost five years since their last two encounters. The first was a mere ten-second, meaningless collision in a corridor of the Marquis Vaelis’ mansion.
The second wasn’t even a meeting. He had merely seen Caspian standing beside Eli out of his window, right before he successfully escaped from Soren’s grasp.
So, how did this person become his kidnapper?
Perhaps the confusion in his eyes was so glaringly obvious that it made Caspian halt for a brief second.
Then, the grin on his face widened slightly.
"It seems you don’t recognize me. I’m Caspian Hale, the eldest son of Marquis Hale. We met at the banquet, remember? You even clung to me with all your might." The young man chuckled as if immersed in some fond memory.
Xion blinked slowly. He was fairly certain the poison hadn’t melted his brain, but this man’s words were testing that certainty. Clung to him?
After that accidental bump years ago, he’d bolted without a second glance, let alone an apology. He hadn’t even looked back!
[Host, this person doesn’t look like a good person.]
Xion agreed wholeheartedly.
Though his heart pounded with both panic and disgust, he forced his voice to form a question. His throat still burned from the lingering traces of the poison.
"...Where is Darius?"
Those words wiped the smugness off Caspian’s face like a slap. The smile faltered. For a fleeting second, a flash of ugly resentment flickered behind his dark eyes.
If Xion hadn’t already known who he was dealing with, that wounded expression might have fooled him. This might have even made him feel guilty. After all, this man had covered him with a blanket and waited for him to wake up.
Thankfully, he knew enough not to fall for whatever role Caspian was playing.
So, he stayed silent, studying the microexpressions playing across the other man’s face that soon showed cracks when there was no reply.
"Even though it’s been so long since we met and fell in love with each other," Caspian murmured with a wounded sigh, "I thought you’d still remember me."
Xion almost choked.
Fell in love? Was this jerk hallucinating? When did he got such a disgusting ex?
Caspian sighed heavily, like a poet burdened by unrequited love. "Forget it. We have plenty of time to talk about the past. But first... how are you feeling?"
Xion still stayed silent. Not for the lack of trying though. He just couldn’t find the right words to express his emotions at the moment.
However, Caspian had no such restrictions as he leaned forward.
Xion’s fingers twitched, but his body remained sluggish. So in frustration, he opted to just tilt his face to the side, trying to evade the approaching hand.
"We were lovers, Xion. Then that devil stole you, warped your mind. Look at you now—pathetic, weakened by his lies." He tucked the duvet around Xion with exaggerated care.
